Super User Team9nine Posted September 28, 2023 Super User Share Posted September 28, 2023 Was planning on a day on the water, just me and Milliken, but then a bunch of guys had to outbid me by more than $15,000 - lol. Guess I’ll just wait for the final minute or two and hope it doesn’t go over $25,000 before then. Don’t want the wife upset before she has to sign the second mortgage paperwork with me to cover this ? ?? ?

This kind of confirms what Josh Jones said all along, he can make way more money with zero stress guiding vs. fishing derbies.....not that JJ is in the same league with Milliken in terms of Bass fishing. JJ charges $2k per day IIrc. Kyle Hall and I forget the other big O.H. Ivie guide's name, but I suspect they make around that as well. Milliken could be making a few hundred thousand a year guiding if he wanted.

I could write a book and I’m only 39 tournaments are WAY less stressful

He had to do CPR for like 30 minutes until paramedics arrived. Then DNR showed up and drew blood from the guide to make sure there was no funny business. You also have to maintain a captain license . now on top of adult babysitting 50 hours a week, think of it like this. I can catch fish but I can’t make someone else catch them. Imagine if you had to get your co angler on fish 250 plus days a year without casting. @Captain Phil said it best, guiding is the worst way to make a living

Perhaps they're equally as stressful way of making a living. Depending on Bass for a paycheck is like depending on a dousing rod for potable water ? Any tournament angler in todays game will tell you, they would starve if they relied solely on winnings. They show up and push product , just salesmen

The Sasquatch Hunt with the Hack Attack would be epic. I'd still pick the Milliken trip over everything else. He might just take the person to O.H. Ivie or something. I wouldn't want to go fishing with Randy in all seriousness. 1

Lol it would definitely be an interesting day in the boat with that guy. I feel like there would be more talking than fishing too. Just seeing his teeth in person would be painful. Its like a train wreck in there.

Kirtley Howe
I have an acquaintance who guides for a living. He guides on Lake Ontario, the Salmon River in NY when the kings are running up to spawn, and for Steelhead, and also on the Niagra River. He also has done (does do?) some guiding on Lake Erie for Smallmouth. He nets about $70,000 a year. Sounds like a great gig, right? Not so much. He has no life outside guiding for 10 months a year. He also works an average of 12-14hrs a day between guiding, preparing to guide, maintaining equipment, handling his bookings, and doing paperwork. The other 2 months is taken up with bookkeeping, maintaining/upgrading his boats, and trying to do all the things he has no time for during his season. He is always under stress to produce for his clients. He must be pretty good, as he is booked out for 2-3 years in advance. Before he got into being a guide, he loved to fish, and we would often fish together. Now, he never fishes for fun....in fact the last thing he wants to do is go fishing for himself. I could not do what he does and would not want to. His plan at this point is to guide until he is 55 years old (yes, he is considerably younger than I am) and then retire....if he lasts that long. I almost never see him anymore....I hope he is happy, but I really don't think he is.

Super User A-Jay Posted September 29, 2023 Super User Share Posted September 29, 2023 Fall spinnerbait bite was on fire today. Points in the wind were loaded up. Going back in the morning hoping for some topwater action. Water temps are still in the mid 60's. I like it. A-Jay

Super User scaleface Posted October 3, 2023 Super User Share Posted October 3, 2023 I dont like taking photos of strangers because I feel like I'm intruding , but I loved the look of this woman taken several years back . Maybe Cuban by the way she's dressed. Theres her walker, bucket, rag, scissors and holding her combo upside down .
Super User A-Jay Posted October 5, 2023 Super User Share Posted October 5, 2023 I remember the sounds & the smells. Roar of the wind. The growl of the twin diesel engines at full throttle. The taste & smell of the salty sea. But what sticks with me the most is that "Feeling". The feeling were operating in an environment that ends lives, and we loved it. #noroomforerror (I was not operating this rig) A-Jay
Super User gimruis Posted October 5, 2023 Super User Share Posted October 5, 2023 The last of the cucumbers for the season were picked last night from my garden. This is the first year I've ever had a garden and I wasn't sure what to expect. I've probably picked 100 of these things in the past month and a half. I have given some to my parents, neighbors, co-workers, and eaten one every day for over a month. We even pickled some in jars with dill too. Honestly, I'm kind of getting sick of them lol. Next year I'll be planting less of these and space them out more. But for a first time gardener kind of learning on the go, I'm quite pleased with the results.
Way north bass guy
Lovely crisp fall morning for a leisurely tractor ride. Went to my brothers about 5 miles away to get a back blade off his tractor. The fall country scenery is definitely nicer at 20mph on a tractor than flying along in a car.

Way north bass guy
Went out to the coop this afternoon and found this, our first one! We got them as chicks in May, so we new it’d be any day now when eggs started to show up. It’s pretty small, but that’s to be expected for the first few eggs, but a really cool coloured one. These hens are called olive eggers, a cross between two breeds that are supposed to make eggs this colour.
