Weather is cooling (at least where I am at) into the 70’ and 80’s. 
 

Curious what everyone’s top 3 baits to throw during this time is.

I am doing frog as top water.

Jigging 

Soft Jerkbait

and as always one Rod of spinning dropshot with me.

1. Topwater

2. A small swimbait 3.3 sometimes a 2.8 depending on how pressured the fish are.

3. Jig

All waters have their own personalities , so its hard to pick three . So  thinking back in my life I'll try .

 Texas rigged worm is always in there .

Bomber Model A has caught some big bass late in fall.

Spinnerbait .

If they are into chasing I'll fish a spinnerbait all day

Finesse jig

Topwater

A-Rig

Swing Head

Vibrating Jig does get honorable mention though

I really don’t throw any specific baits based solely on the seasons. 

The baits themselves don’t change much year round. 
 

There are some I won’t have in rotation.. like a 10” worm after a cold front, or burning a spinner bait over submerged grass. 

Pretty much everything else is in play.

I went out yesterday under what would be considered pretty good conditions, moderate wind, cloud cover.   I caught plenty of bass.  I tried all sections of the water column.   Only the opposite ends of the spectrum worked.   About half were caught with a frog up tight to shore or on slop in 3 feet of water or less, and half were caught with a deep crank in 20 feet of water.  Absolutely none were caught in between.

Catt, curiosity has me... how few lures do you actually fish consistently?

Crankbaits, worms, jigs, creature style soft plastics. I don’t change much from what I do during mid season. 
 

Color changes slightly, but than again maybe not. 

Fall to bass is cooling water and turnovers possible. Baitfish and crawdads crawdads on the move before a turnover.

I use structure spoons, tail spins and crank baits more during the fall/winter plus jigs and worms year around. Top water if surface action is working. 3 lures, take your pick.

The vast majority are caught on Texas Rigged Speed Worms or Speed Craws

Jig-n-Craw 

 

I do sprinkle in topwater, spinnerbaits, traps, chatterbaits, squarebills, & deep crankbaits.

 

Their usage is not based on seasonal patterns but rather locations.

In that order. Honorable mention - swimbait. 

Yesterday I wasted over a half an hour throwing a spinnerbait, then a topwater, then a lizard… and then I tied on a weightless Senko and it was like magic. 10 bass and 3 giant gills the final hour before dark. 

Jig, wacky rigged/Texas rigged worm, chatter bait, crankbait, jerk bait, soft fluke, top water (frogs and spooks mostly with a few wake baits thrown in the mix). Hard to pinpoint just 3, take your pick depending on the weather, water clarity and water temperature.

Spinnerbait.

 

Take into account where someone is from with their advice. Fall fishing is a lot different in Texas than it is in  Michigan.

I’m in Texas and water temp is still 80-85. Lot of trolling cranks 15-20 ft right now for hybrids and such. I don’t have a boat, so for me:

 

Spinners/chatterbaits

trig/wacky worms

jigs (swim and arkie style)

 

I also do a lot of night fishing this time of year. That’s when fish move up shallower to eat I guess.

Don't you love when a sunfish or crappie manages to choke down a stickbait and hook itself on a 3/0 EWG hook? Amazing, I fish the same plastic baits all year w/ just some color tuning now and again. 

   Stickbaits - senkos/ochos/and true centers

   Crawfish imitators - rage tail craws/bugs/swimming craw tubes

   Worms - curly tail/speed tail/straight (finesse roboworm)

colors change with time of year/water clarity/brightness of day/and what the fish prefer (most important)..........
