Mbirdsley
Some stuff I’ve been working on. 1/4 and 3/8 oz arkies and poison tails. I’m going back to rubber collars. I tried the whole hand tied thing last year and didn’t really care for it. I use good rubber collars and have never had one rot out.

DanielG
Finally the ice melted and I was able go to down to the water and cast a few of the lures I made this winter. Some of it was good and some of it just ain't pretty. But it's all good. Kept me busy during the cold months and cabin fever here in Maine. https://youtu.be/SshJaaQCRac
jminer79
I dabble in softbaits, have been for almost a year now. Good lord this stuff is addicting....and expensive. I'm to the point where Im comfortable with single colors now. Getting into laminates and starting to look into skirts & bucktails. It hit me at the right time too...i had just lost my father 2/2/22 and was into the bottle heavily.....wife said I needed a hobby.....i think she regrets saying that now as I spend a bit of time in the garage lol. Honestly though....its brought me peace, relaxation, and a renewed sense of purpose.....I give some to my close friends and when they nail a PB on one "I MADE".....I get pumped. I have to resize a few, but Ill post them up later.

Spinnerbaits and jigs are expensive enough.

Mbirdsley
I should be getting my spinner bait spacers soon and then down another hole haha. made up jigs tonight on my last off night for three nights. First picture made up some blue gill swim baits from the do it poison tail mold. There are actually 3 differnt disco colors on the jig head. I don’t know if done messing around with this pattern yet. Maybe more tweaks coming. next up is swim jigs and arkies with black and blue flake powder paint. Black and blue fire tip skirt with a rattle. I’m hoping the rattle helps on the titabawassee and Saginaw rivers where visibility is a foot on a good day. 3rd is a variation of pb&j which, I have found works as a good back up color on the above mentioned rivers and in tannic colored lakes. lastly another pattern I made up and I’m calling peanut butter goby. The paint is TJ tackle goby with pb&j skirt with gold neon flake. that one seems promising up north and or on any of Great Lakes or connecting waters. we’re almost to jig season. Just need to get the water temp up 10-20 degrees atleast for the arkies.

As for spinnerbait spacers I recommend leader sleeves just sligthly larger than the wire diameter. In almost 20 years of making spinnerbaits I have not found anything that works better. Ten yrs ago during the winter I made my first jig while, living my one room apartment while on the front porch freezing in the winter time. I was using a hot pot 2 electric ladle. My then girlfriend now wife thought I was crazy for making jigs middle of winter. Well she thinks I’m still crazy about all this fishing stuff

Mbirdsley
In preparation for my fishing trip up north to big crystal lake in benzie county Michigan I made up some 3/4 oz football jigs. I’ll use them on other lakes too but, that’s main lake. I don’t have the mold yet so I bought 10 unpainted 3/4 oz football jigs off of eBay. They are poured with victory hooks. surprised I actually had to hunt a while on eBay to find unpainted jigs. I know from personal experience of selling jigs on ebay. That eBay really socks it to people on the fees. That could be a reason. 2 magic craw heads with light blue and green pumpkin. 2 variations of black and blue 1 Gp head with 2 tabs of Gp and 1 tap of light blue 1 peanut butter goby 1 dragon fly blue head 3 Gp heads with chartreuse smoke polka dots mixed with Gp taps

A-Jay Thanks, it’s still a ways off I won’t be up there untill there untill the 9th of June through the 13th. No telling what phase they will be in as it’s a massive deep lake ( I’m sure as you know). they could be all spawned out or still spawning at that point. However, I am feeling the need to catch some nice smallies. I’m getting jealous seeing all of these pictures from lake st.Clair. I’m thinking I really need to go down there next spring.
Mbirdsley
Down this next rabbit hole. I call this Saginaw as that’s pretty much where I’ll use it. All of the rivers that form the Saginaw river have visibility on a good day of around 6-8 inches. I bought pre plated spinner forms. The top spinner #5.5 hammered brass Willow which, is a tad bigger than what I usually see on spinner baits. Bottom blade is a #4. Just a regular black skirt. I’ve got more blades coming and I need to settle on a spinner body style. I have some hammered Indiana blades I want to use too. Eventually, I want to paint my own whether it’s powder coating or with regular paint with a air brush. I’m sure it will need small tweaks.
Bdnoble84
First foray with Bass Wood. (Bottom). It sure does carve out nice. Slipped a little rattle in as my balast well. Thinking it probably needs a craw pattern. Should be a tighter wobble though, so maybe i will go with a minnow pattern. the larger one is pine. Just doesnt clean up as well but ive got some nice action with that shape.
