Let's hear it, what are your greatest of all times, that one that maybe isn't made anymore or that one that is just right for what you use it for. What's the one rod you could never give up or get it back if you could. 

 

 

I carry 13 bc setups.  Almost every one is technique specific.  Four of them are noncurrent Gloomis rods and I’d hate to be without any of them.  The one that would break my heart is a custom shaky rod that I had built last year.

iRod Stone Cold Swim and Vibrating Jig Rod

Shimano crucial gen 2 CRC-D611MA. This is Shimano dropshot specific but I used for everything, love it especially for fluke and weightless trick worm. The sensitivity is very good, super light weight and balance well. After I broke the rod, I stopped fishing fluke for good.

7'1" MF St Croix Rage for blade baits and small traps.  I have nothing else close to as good 

I absolutely have to have a 7'6"  MH F. Most prefer something shorter for an "all arounder", but the 7'6" gives me the tip to pitch light Trigs or launch a weightless senko, while still having the power to move fish out of all but the nastiest of tangles. This is a rod that can do a lot of things very well.

 I have quite a few technique specific rods, but that's the one I MUST have. Current favorite is the ARK Tharp Offshore Special. 

Back in the 70's I had an Eagle Claw rod that I used for panfish.  It met an untimely end in my dad's tailgate.  I always say if I find another rod that feels the way that one did I would buy it.  No luck so far.

I use the Tatula Elite AGS 7' M/MH the most of any rods I have.

6'6" All Star ACL GT-2 ... not one of the more popular all star rods but still a rubber butt All Star rod. Ive used it for everything and for a while it was my primary jig stick. It now works larger crankbaits, lipless, and spinnerbaits. 

My 7’ mhf st croix legend elite is the best rod I’ve owned to date for how I fish, I use it for pitching jigs and plastics 95% of the time, but can also do a whole lot more.

As someone who is considering buying the conquest 844 I can’t help but wonder if this rod does very similar things

Although it is not a casting rod, one of the coolest rods I own is a no longer made G. Loomis GL3 SJR700

 

its a 5'10 "mag light" spinning rod with an extra fast taper, which has a very light tip but a bit of a backbone at the base.

 

I believe the old school Loomis rods were the only ones with this type of taper. the rod is almost 20 years old now and I still use it regularly with a shimano 1000 size spinning reel and 6 pound Sufix Seige mono. its awesome.

 

I don't know what a modern equivalent rod would be?? god forbid it ever breaks on me

I have two Cabela's C44x bait-casters from the early 1990's. I'm told Cabela's branded rods at that time were manufactured by Loomis. 

 

These particular rods (CDH 602 and 704T) have a spiral-like guide design...first guide is about 11 o'clock, next is around 9 o'clock, then 7 o'clock...and the remainder of the guides are beneath the blank (as a spinning rod would). 

 

Great rods, very sensitive.

Lucky to get these a year or so before they were apparently discontinued. At least I assume they're disco'd; the entire Avid casting lineup disappeared from the St.C website sometime within the past year. The Avid spinners remain, along with the Avid Trek spinners/casters which also like.

Long steelhead rod, MH Fast distance rocket, Lamiglas Rogue River Special. 

Killer surf-lure rod.   Bought on close-out, very nicely appointed with gold titanium-frame guides. 

 

My back-up bait rod, 3-pc kept in kayak hold - 7' MF Cabela's Salt Striker. 

Same blank as TFO Traveler, and bought on close-out for $50. 

Pre IPC Saint Croix Avid AC62MXF.  Truly the best topwater rod I've ever used.

Haven’t owned one but I understand the 844’s bend slightly more mid blank making it a bit more “versatile”, it’s no doubt lighter and more sensitive but dang that price, that’s an elite and a reel.
