Early deer season means I bring my rifle & rods so I can hit the beaver pond after a morning hunt. It's rough but somebody's got to do it.

Yeah we’ve seen your beaver pond bass, I’d never fish a reservoir 

Tom me , autumn largemouth bass are unpredictable . I might catch them beyond 20 foot on points or in the back of coves  with buzzbaits . So I  look everywhere .

This is a good point A-Jay. Dying vegetation exposes the bait fish more. Regardless if panfish, shad, or other. It opens things up for the bass to go on the feed.

Happens in the creeks first as that deal cools faster.

Guess who is waiting near the mouth for the bait to come spilling out into the main lake ??   Give ya 2 guesses and the first one doesn't count. . .

it was 98 before the heat index the last couple days and of course I had work to do outside and couldn't keep enough fluids in me but it is what it is.  A "cold" front moved through today so the high is in the low 80s.  If you asked me yesterday i would be all for the fall but as of today, nah I am cool with the fall starting like normal.

I just hope and pray I don’t see a hurricane(s) to set back the river. Last years devastation has and does have an effect on this current season. Helps in some situations and has long lasting poor effects in other ways. We should be breaking out of this long heat wave shortly. Strange year this year. 

Oh good lord yes. I think my best days numbers wise have always been in the fall, the weather usually tames itself a bit, enough rain days that burn bans get lifted, so I can start camping/backpacking etc again, then you got post season baseball, football starting up, hunting seasons getting under way/ready, the fall is without a doubt my favorite time of the year, and as a bank angler spring/fall are the best chances your going to get for a trophy fish, so bring it on.

Fall is hit or miss for me too.  The fish can be biting (or not biting) on a variety of lures, patterns, and in a wide range of depths.

 

Lately, fall has definitely been very warm too.  I normally deer hunt the second week of November every year and there have been a bunch of very warm days mixed in there in recent years.  It never used to be like this either, even just 10 to 20 years ago.  So ya, fall is trending more like summer.  At least its not blistering hot or humid anymore though.

I hear ya.  The season here is only 9 days and I hunt almost every day, all day of those 9 days.  I can't just "go next week" because the season is over.

 

The other nice thing about fall is that there is far less recreational boating traffic.

Fall always meant deer season, sitting in treestands checking trail cams.

 

Since I retired over 2 years ago, it's hunt one day and fish the next.......and of course the wife's fantastic chilli.

I'm in SC. We don't have fall. Our summers run from May 1st to October 31st, often longer.

what is this Fall you speak of????? in Florida we have summer and cool summer.......

I’m ready for it. Fall is my favorite time of year overall.  It’s second to spring for bass fishing though in my area… I enjoy the afternoon bite of fall,which keeps me from having to get up so early for the summer morning bite…and fall here is relative-fall here is like summer up north…?

I won’t touch the climate change debate. 
 

But, years ago, as a kid and as an adult when kids were younger we had what I believe were 4 true seasons. I fish and hunt and the weather window is not what it was.

Fall can't come soon enough. The summer heat has historically always been super productive for me, but this summer has been the worst summer bite of my fishing life. It was so hot for so long.

I love fall fishing. I just have to work it around football season. 

Fall is a great time to go bass fishing.

I am really a one trick pony it seems and can only catch in summer, and on worms. This year for the first time I started fishing ned rig and have fished more on it than senkos. 

Fall for me just means...disappointment. And end of my fishing season.

You might try and change your method. Pick an overcast fall day, with a little wind. Fan cast a spinnerbait or a lipless lure. Try different depths and speeds. You may be surprised by what you get.                                                        Keep after it, and, don't give up.

 

 

 

 

 

I’m sick of the hot humid sticky weather and cannot for Fall. It’s my favorite season in general. Just picked up a new pair of waders and cannot wait to reel in some big autumn smallies on the river!

Fall is bittersweet for me on the river. I get some nice Smallies in September but they disappear by mid to late October. Then it’s the 3 P’s for me (Perch, Pickerel, Pumpkinseeds) if I want to keep catching fish until first ice.

Great suggestion! I have generally abandoned stuff if it doesnt work and that could be why I dont catch as much on lipless, spinnerbait, jigs.

So fall is generally for moving baits and the senko/ned rig/worm bites die down completely. Is that true?

Living in new england, if I can learn to catch on those baits I will be so much more happier. As this would mean my fishing season extends by a few months.

I envy people in the south! Bigger fish, longer fishing season.

Fall fishing can be hit or miss.  The bass are more sensitive to fronts moving through, and the high and low temps have a wider gap.  It's not as bad as springtime, but worse than summer.

Took advantage of the cooler air yesterday morning. Real pleasure to be on the river.  By no means is fall at my finger tips yet. That big bit has still been tough over the last month. I’ll get her. Water temps need to drop and some rain that’s not flash floods. 
 

Caught close to 2 dozen dinks and runts from 8” to 13”. The way things have been going I was satisfied. I had to be. Kept things as simple as possible only throwing a few soft and hard confidence baits.  
 

I’ll be back in there in a day of so. I might hit the deeper sections. Concentrate all my efforts there. Nothing to loose. Maybe go at them a bit different.
