Update 03 Aug ~

The whirl wind continues.

This was Lynn at Henry Ford on 16 July in the throws of scary renal failure and insane water retention.

Doesn't seem real.

Currently  going to 4 hour Dialysis 3 days a week,

Chemo once every 2 weeks and a completely new diet.

We're working on making this the new normal.

It's just what we do.

Thanks for the support.

Thanks for the update Andy. Y'all have been on my mind a lot lately. I thought about sending a PM, but didn't want to pry. Figured you'd update here when you were ready. The prayers continue, and I'm happy to see she's doing better.

You're Welcome and Thank You.

The generous support offered here by you as well as all of BR forum family has been inspiring and so helful to us both.

Also in my book, generous and sincere concern is never prying.

Thanks again brother, you're a good man.

Andy, do you know why her nephrologist hasn't suggested home dialysis?

It's a complicated deal.

All said and done currently the at home treatment is not our best option.

Fortunately the treatment center is not too much of a hike.

Thanks for letting me know. I should have figured that it was considered. I only mentioned it because my spouse's nephrologist has raised nighttime dialysis as an option.

23 Aug 24 Update ~ We're hanging in there.

Lynn's in a holding pattern right now.

Treatment is still the same as my last update.

Kidney function is SLOWLY / Incrementally improving.

This is buying her some much needed time.

Looks like this will play out and may go one of three ways.

Kidney regains normal function,

Dialysis forever or a kidney transplant.

She's going on the need a kidney donor list in a week or two just in case.

Chemo is once every two weeks and her Lupus is hiding in the weeds.

I'm trying to take every opportunity I can to decompress.

Thank you all Very Much for the continued support.

A-Jay

Lynn is blessed to have you in her  life. ❤️

You probably know but you can donate your kidney even if you aren't a match. You basically trade yours for someone who matches. There is hardly any wait time for it that way. The recovery is usually harder on the donor than recipient though just fyi. Incision at the lower abdomen takes time to heal.

30 Aug 24 ~ Update.

Last post saw that Lynn's Kidney function was SLOWLY / Incrementally improving. Thankfully that has continued.  Sufficiently enough that her 3 days a week dialysis has been reduced to 2 days a week.

THIS IS HUGE and there were tears shed.

This latest medical deal has been serious and way scary.  We try so hard to keep composed, regardless of that's going on at the time.  Knowing how volital and how quickly circumstances can change has taught us that maintaining a level head helps control the wildy debilitating stress that can be a another layer that doesn't help anything.

Either way, this is a big win.

The smiles are the best

24 Sept 2024 ~ .

Last Update back in August noted that Lynn's Kidney function

was SLOWLY / Incrementally improving.

We're so grateful that trend has continued, as her blood numbers continue to improve, she still participates in dialysis 2 days a week.

She's tolerating the procedure much better

with only a an occasional headache in the aftermath.

Lynn's kidney healing specific diet and hydration intake monitoring continues

and does seem to be contributing to positive gains.

Working with her assigned nutritionist has been key.

Side note, I've always believed my own 'diet' was important

and staying strict on what I've learned over the years has worked for me.

However living through this deal with Lynn, and seeing first hand how

'just the correct diet' can change a once critically ill person,

to one who is doing much better, really drives the point home.

 Next hurdle, Lynn's eyesight.

Not sure if I mentioned it or not, with everything that was happening all at once, but during one of the many test /procedures done on her in the hospital,

Lynn threw a blood clot into the back of her right eye.

This has essential blocked 100% of her vision in that eye.

So like so much of her life the past several years,

she's had to learn to live & adapt to being a one eyed woman.

There's been a learning curve as you might imagine.

We've been to see two different eye specialists and there is an eye surgery scheduled for the middle of Oct to remove the blood clot from behind he eye.

The expectations (insert hope) is that after the somewhat lengthy healing process,

Lynn could regain some if not all of her vision in that eye.

She's also been on blood thinners this whole time to help control the clot.

She will need to ween down her dosage to a lower level prior to the surgery.

As always, despite whatever these challenges may be,

Lynn continues to amaze me with her upbeat, positive & live for today attitude.

I love her for it too.

Stay Well my friends and thank you all again.

A-Jay
