yeah, I'd say that's pretty impressive...

Any idea where he was fishing?  Doesn't look great lakes.  Given the lake levels it looks like California.  I can't watch the full video right now so I don't know if he's said it verbally.

No.

And I never ask or even try to find out.

Ignore the drones that seem to follow you to the lake come ice out.... :)

Smallmouth guys are much more secretive over honey holes I've found, and I believe this is for good reason.

This is also why I believe FFS will make the most impact on SM records.

40lb bag of anything is spectacular, to do it with SMs or Spots boggles the mind.

In all seriousness I've brought up the drone thing in regard to the Erie father and son that caught the DD SM recently.   Somebody is going to just DJI them.

We'll just call it Mendechuck west then.

Works for me ~

btw - Mr. Moua did a very nice job concealing the bait(s) he was using.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Especially us 'Old' smallmouth guys . . . .

:wiseman:

Either way, the writing's on the wall.

It's getting harder and harder to ignore it.

This might be the one that pushes me over the edge

in the form of an updated electronics package.

My fear is that by the time I 'figure it out',

I'll be too old to use it.

Life is short.

I'd LOVE to see it in your hands!    You have the methodical way of thinking to excel at it.

You've also already proven quite clearly you can catch monster toads without it, why not see if it can push you into the stratosphere ?

He does do an impressive job in his video editing.  He was pretty careful in not showing it when unhooking fish and keeping his back to the camera.  However there are a couple small glimpses throughout the video to give you some clues and there is one spot where you can see just what he's fishing.  I'm not going to post a pic and out him here, but its possible to see it.

I'll bet it's Washington state or BC. Looks like he is using a single hook with live bait or a small plastic imitation. One hell of an outing. I just wish he would learn to attach the lip gripper on the centerline of the jaw instead of horizontally off to the side. He dropped that 8-11 twice off the scale.

I think I've got the lake figured out too.  At one point he shows it on his Helix unit.  Its zoomed out enough you can't see too much detail, but if you have an idea where he is you can match it up.

You're right on the single hook, but its not live bait.  There are actually 3 points in the video he missed hiding it.

Please ~

Can we just admire the fish & the fisherman's ability

and make no reference to where he's at.

Does it matter?

Are you going there ?

If you know great, but don't be That guy.

Thanks for posting that vid @A-Jay. Now you and @Dwight Hottle know how the rest of us feel!!! ?

Awesome ~

Should have seen how far my jaw dropped open when that video popped up in my cue.

I sat right on the cold cement deck in garage to watch it  . . . .

Oh and right back at ya Muskypaloosah !

Unreal. He was a lot calmer than I would have been. I  would probably struggle to focus on fishing after that first 8lber.

Wow...just wow! Reminds me of watching one of AJ's videos, but this guy is catching carp instead of giant smallies haha. Very impressive, now excuse me while I go try to pick my jaw up off the floor.

1000%....and that was my first reaction after the first fish.   If I caught a single 8lb SM I would go straight Ike mode, I'd rip off my shirt and start beating my chest making Tarzan/monkey noises ?

It really is hard to stay locked in after you've caught one of those fish where you have to sit down for 5-10 minutes to collect yourself and stop shaking.
