What’s your big ribbon tall worm rod

Featured Replies

Sure; I like a longer rod such  as the bc2 but what else including shorter longer rods do you prefer ?

No idea what a bc2 is but I throw my big ribbon tails on a Abu Ike power rod 8' heavy med-fast and a 7'5" Megabass Braillist.

G Loomis 843 or 844 MBR depending on how heavy the cover is and the weight size

Nothing special whatever jig rod is handy. The NRX 853 works well if I'm casting it.

If I'm flipping it in the buck brush I would go up in power.

Totally depends on where I’m throwing it.
Other than my punch rig, I don’t have one specific rod just to throw one specific bait.

Mostly it’s a 7’3 Ark with flouro and a 7’ Fenwick M1 with braid

I'm all over the place with big worms and weights under 5/16oz, from a PA 6'11M+, PA 7'6XH, and Dobyns 755.  When working downhill, I tend to like the shorter, lighter rod to make sure I don't work it too fast.  Uphill, the longer rods seem to be easier to control.   The 755 is my do all, but the PA's are making inroads.  When I go up to 1/2oz, the M+ can't give me the feedback I like loaded up that much.

7’ Fenwick Aetos MH-F

Mostly a Dobyns DX746

My favorite big worm rods in no particular order:

Orochi xx emtf-first generation

EG Orion Black Rose

EG Kaleido Rapid Gunner HD

EG Kaleido egoist

Tulala Monstruo 74MHC-it is still pretty new to me but has proven itself as a solid bottom contact rod so far-very versatile overall

Would love to try a bc2 one of these days, seems to have near legendary status among its fans

My 6’10” jig & worm rod. Ribbon tail is just another worm.

Some folks like to C-rig ribbon tails and prefer longer rods to cast the longer leader. I T-rig ribbon tails w/ sliding bullet weight, same as straight rails?

7’ Kistler Helium 3 Mh/xf

I don't give my rods names, that way they don't get confused when I throw a worm on my jig rod.

X3  Either braid or 15# YZH.

1?4oz. or under, MHX 843 paired with a Daiwa Viento. 5/16oz and over, St.Croix Mojo Bass MBC70HF paired to a Diawa TD Advantage.  That MHX blank is a bit on the stiff side for the lighter weights, but with a big worm, I can still get 25yrds. from a cast.

Usually something heavier than an 843 and less heavy than an 844, but always longer than either.  There is the occasion to go lighter but that is rare.

I've been really happy with an NRX 894 with a 3/8 oz shakeyhead or Texas rig.
