Accuracy is pretty high on my list. I can hit a spot the size of a dinner plate with overhanging trees 9 out of 10 times with a bait caster, and I can skip a stick bait under a dock with a gap of one inch above the water 9 out of 10 times with a spinning reel. And almost everything in between.

My worst “skill” is probably that I constantly get stuck on what has worked in the past. I think back to where and how I caught fish last time, and continue to do that for too long, even if it’s not working. I need to be more willing to adapt quicker.

Pretty much sums me up.

My best skill is probably fishing in vegetation.  I love fishing in and around matted and submerged vegetation.

My worst skill is only focusing on where I am casting or pitching to.  I tend to hit a lot of branches I didn't see until I hit them.

What lures are you using and how do you get them out of there?

No trebles unless I have a straight shot through the weeds.  No long casts. I cast wake style baits so they don't dive too deep.

Small jigs.  Usually around 1/8 size.  If the jig snags in the weeds, I reel down and give the rod a quick snap to get it loose.  Most of the time it comes free, but sometimes you still drag in a salad.

Split shot rig with a straight worm, or weightless.  I work it across the top of the vegetation.

And how do you pull a bass out of that salad?

When you feel a bite don't let them go very long.  I try and fish with baits that won't sink down too far into the weeds, so the bass have to come out and get the bait.

Sometimes they get wrapped up in the weeds, and as long as you keep a tight line on them they can't swim.  When this happens you have to go and get them.

Best for me is accuracy, specifically skipping under docks and back into cover. I love skipping so much I do it sometimes when I dont even have to. And Im very successful with soft plastics.

Worst is a little embarrassing. I suspect some of you have the same problem. I had my own bass boat in the 80s. After I stopped fishing tournaments I sold it, and bought a jon boat with a smaller motor. I started fishing smaller waters.
Within the last 10 years I began fishing again with a childhood friend who I actually taught to bass fish. He has a more modern bass boat. So there was a 30 year gap between my old bass boat days and the recent ones.
I have trouble with his boat - everything is different. I am not a fast backer anymore-and I am slow with the other gadgets on the boat too. And the boat ramps are 4 times more crowded than before. So it’s intimidating to me now and humbling to someone who’s done this for 50 years now. Im not stupid, just slower than I was…

Best: good with a spinner bait and an accurate caster but my best "skill" is my ability to grind out a bite or two in tough conditions.

Worst: swimbaits- of any size. I just don't get it.

Frogs, I've been using either the Scum Frog Launch or the Snag Proof Bobby's Perfect. Caught my new PB 5-7 on it last month in about 18" of water.

Best: Probably casting accuracy and lure presentation. I have practiced in the yard since I was a kid and still do. I taught myself how to cast lefthanded this year.

Worst: using the same lure an extra hour even though it ain't working. I tend to get tunnel vision and just keep trying, instead of realizing it ain't working and thinking of something different to try.

I think one of the things I do best is fish small. I see people passing by me 3-4 times in a couple hours. Trying to cover here there and every where. I tend to be more methodical. I usually only make one or two big moves per outing. Now there are some spots I pull up and fish 15 minutes because I know it’s an area that they fish will be there or they won’t. Most times I am picking apart an area ever nook and cranny I can.

Worst: I am terrible in lakes. I think most of that has to do with our bathtubs filled with water that pretty much require FFS.

1.  Best - Serving as a horrible example.

2.  Worst - Accuracy.  Some days I’m spot on; other days I get excited if my cast lands in the same time zone as my target.

Best at finesse fishing, worst at waiting too long to shift gears and change things up in presentation or location. In my early fishing days I used to be the opposite, changing things up too often, which is an entirely different problem.

I’m new to the bass fishing scene so I don’t really have a best. My worst is definitely pitching. I can’t figure that out to save my life.

Take a five gallon bucket and place it about 10/15 yards out. Hold your bait in your non rod hand and use the rod to swing the bait outwards dropping it in the bucket. Use the rod and bait as a pendulum. Continually add distance then a smaller (one gallon) bucket.

Practice , practice, practice. When on the water think of your target as the bucket.

I wish I could give you half my brain for half your brain. Then we'd both be the ULTIMATE ANGLERS!

My patience level has greatly improved over the years, so I would say that. I do tend to stick with a bait too long though, usually a white spinner bait.

“Best” is a relative term, because can’t think of anything I’m really good at yet.  I took a very long time off of fishing and am still trying to catch up from when I put down my Mitchell 300 spooled with Stren.  When I came back to fishing, my first trip to a well stocked bass fishing store was mind boggling.  So maybe I could say my obsessive nature and how far I’ve come in a few years is a strength.🤷🏼‍♂️

Weaknesses are many, but I’d say poor casting accuracy probably costs me more opportunities than anything else.

I’d say reading cover as my greatest strength, knowing where and how to present the bait.

Other than giving mediocre advice I’d say my weakest is deciding on the proper lure for the conditions.

Other than a worm or spinnerbait I tend to over think it.
