Favorite firetiger squarebill

Featured Replies

What is your favorite squarebill brand in production that has a killer firetiger pattern

For the way I fish the squarebill on the rivers around me, it is the Bomber.  It is one of only a few non-Rapala lures I carry, and Firetiger is one of two Bomber patterns I’ll use.  And for the price, I don't mind damaging or losing one when plowing the bottom or crashing through rocks.  I’ll admit that price was the first attraction, but they do catch fish.

Well it's not a squarebill (my apologies) but this is my favorite firetiger lure I have.

I'm pretty sure it's a Japan only color.

Do you think firetiger has become a bit outdated, or does it still have its place

Rapala still offers a wide variety of fire tiger color lures.

I caught several largemouth on the bait I showed above the first time I threw it.

Bass have the same vision they did 40 years ago.

"Outdated" colors are perfect because they aren't seeing them all day every day.

6th Sense had a great firetiger pattern, but of course they DC'd it. You can still find some floating around if you look. I really liked the Flat 75X.  Bandit has a good firetiger color that I've caught a ton of fish on also.

Bandit and the Luhr Jensen have good versions.  Norman’s DLN is also great.

Potomac walleye do seem to like it.

I like the Bandit firetiger pattern.  Another good one was the old Mann's pattern.

In addition to perch, I believe its vertical lines on green background can mimic young smallmouth.

River Smallmouth in early spring;  high, cold, and dirty water.

I don’t have any confidence in fire tiger… zero, zilch…nada.I might have one in old stock, but I gave mine away.
When I did have them in square bill, it was the Bass Pro.

Fire Tiger Rapala are good for both Rainbow and Brown trout out west and we don’t have any yellow perch. The color is bright with high contrasting vertical stripes that Smallmouth bass also like, killer color up in Canadian lakes.
What bait fish does Fire tiger replicate only the predators know!

When fishing turbid water it's a good pattern to try... if you have one.

@Smirak The bass over here in Illinois seem to like fire tiger also, for me at least I feel it replicates a  bluegill which makes up the primary food source in the retention ponds I mainly fish.

I discovered that Lucky Craft has a Matt Tiger in the 1.5 Silent for 7.99 and this is a very good squarebill.
