Favorite Rod Company
Nope, as I said before I never fished one but I might have to see what all the attention is about. It looks like a nice rod, is lightweight, certainly not cheap and everyone says they have a great warranty. I'm not a big fan of their cork split grip style. I like either the Steez air foam or the full loomis cork. Do they fish any "better" than a Steez or a GLX ? Whats the difference between a St Croix LegendXtreme and a Legend Elite ? The LegendXtreme is only $50 more, so what more do I get ?

No More Loomis Rods?
Good to hear they are keeping it. BTW, if it wasn't making money they wouldn't be doing it.

Favorite Rod Company
Since you put it that way, I might need to try one.

Favorite Rod Company
"Company", what kind of question is that? I don't like any company but I do like some rods. Its a tough choice and if I had never touched a Steez rod it would be easy, G.Loomis GLX hands down! However I do love my Steez !!! PS. ask me again in 2 months when I have a new NFC rod. St. Croix ? are you serious ? I hear they make a very good rod and they are a very good company but I dont fish with a company, I fish with a rod. I'd like to put a GLX or Steez rod in the hands of every St. Croix fan for a day and then ask them what their favorite "rod" is. That being said, I've got to try a St. Croix and see what I am missing. I know there are a few people like Brokeju that have fished lots of different rods and can truly pick a great rod. It would be interesting to redo this poll and ask what your favorite rod is and what rods you have fished. Bet I'm gonna get burned at the stake for this post.

No More Loomis Rods?
Bullsquat, the IMX and GLX rods make shimano a fortune, even they are not foolish enough to drop their cash cow. Besides, they already got out of the rod blank business and thats where Gary would have killed them.

Looking for a baitcaster great for lines between 6lb and 8lb
I agree the Daiwa Pixy is the baitcast reel for light lines. I got to hold one a few weeks ago, its sweet and everyone says it will cast light stuff a mile. Not sure about the Shimano Chronarch 50mg, Ive never held or used one but I cant imagine its much different then a Core 50mg. What are you thoughts Bronzefly on that comparison?

Shimano Calais DC- anybody ever used one?
I bought one, tried it, works/casts very well and it is a very nice reel (and you CAN backlash it) but it was a bit bukly and had some weight compared to the low profile reels I prefer so I returned it for a full refund. The clerk at BPS examined the reel for almost 20 minutes before processing my refund back to my credit card. I'm waiting for a Steez or equal reel with digital control.

Favorite reel company?
I didn't say that !

Favorite reel company?
Baitcasting: Daiwa (Steez) Spinning: Shimano (Stella) (if Shimano made a baitcaster as smooth and precise as their Stella spinning reel, I'd pick Shimano for all reels) 8-)

Rod for shallow crankbaits.
Warning: this is a high end suggestion, proceed with caution. If your going custom you might as well consider Gary Loomis NEW Northfork Composites blanks. They are shipping several blanks in their IM series ($149-$212) and at least 1 of their top HM series ($310). Check out www.northforkcomposites.com and their approved rod builder registry.

Finally, after 3 years my Megabass Slant Bridge collection is complete.
Steez are the production bling rods that we middle class must settle for unlike the Megabass that is for the upper class budget, those with enough $$$ that the warranty doesnt matter. I am so jealous ! 8-) 8-) 8-)

Which Gear Ratio for 10' plus cranking - 5.2:1 or 4.7:1??
I'm more concerned about the reel choice than the ratio. Why is that? I have all BPS Pro lite and PQ after selling my shimanos and quantums and a diawa! I have had them for a long while and have had no problems with any of the reels! They cast just as far as my brand name reels. So maybe you can come down off your high horse and join the rest of us! OR maybe he could step up to the top of the pile and join some of us. JK 8-) Seriously, Ive bought 2 of the BPS PQ reels, still have 1 and they are good reels. Not anything like my Steez reels but I think they are good value for the $$$.

Reel maintenace before & aft
Great idea using that muffin pan to hold the parts. However, that calendar still tops the muffin pan.

Gary Loomis is back in the rod building business....sort of....
You are aware that Gary has Northfolk Composites now, yes? Exactly, Garys company NFC produces rod blanks, he is simply supplying blanks to TFO and endorsing their rods. My question is, which one of the NFC blanks are they using? I know its not the top of the line HM Next and even the IM Next are to pricey to use for $99 rods so it must be the entry level SM Next blank. No matter, from what 2 buliders have told me that have built rods using a NFC blank the blanks are awesome compared to anything that exist today. Its worth $99 to try the TFO rod but I do think their warrany program is a bit pricey, a requirement to send $40 in to replace a $99 rod doesn't sound like a deal for the buyer.

Reviews and help wanted... What is the best shallow crankbait rod & reel setup?
If you have $$$ to burn, I would recommend what I use, a Steez 103SHA reel and a Steez Fle-X-lite STZ651MLRBA-FL 6'5" ML Reaction crankbait rod. Its a killer setup. 8-)

The Kistler carbonsteel rods are nice looking rods and for $109 it looks like a good deal. I like the combination cork/foam grip.
