Both’s fast action leans more towards mod than xf. You’ll be fine with fast. If you fish lures in the 3/8 - 1/2 oz range in cover you may want to bump up to a 4 power Dobyns and heavy Falcon.

In the never ending quest of becoming a more consistent, well rounded angler how would you have fished the following scenaro? (hint: we got skunked!!) Ross Barnett Reservoir, Jackson MS Outside temp - 55 degrees Water temp - 57 Clarity - 6-8 inches Very cloudy with no sun Wind - 5-10 mph out of the NW Situation - The area has experienced a lot of rain in the last week or two especially north MS. The state opened all the dams and the water level is about 3 feet below normal throughout the entire lake. Cold front and more rain moving in overnight. Before the water dropped bass were moving into the spawning flats in 0-3 foot of water. Today those areas are dried up and you couldn't get a boat within 100 yards of them. What we did - We started on the outskirts of the spawning flats in 4-7 feet of water throwing crankbaits, lipless crankbaits, chatterbaits, and spinnerbaits. Covered a good bit of water. Lot of stumps throughout it. Graphs weren't showing much activity besides pockets of crappie. The river channel was about 15 feet deep but was lined with several hundred crappie boats which is normal. After several hours we decided to move towards a nearby bridge and hwy where we ran down several hundred yards of rip rap. Then into a marina with 8 ft of water. Tried slowing down with a worm. No luck. Not even a single bite in 5 hours. We talked to several boats with the same misfortune. One guy did catch a couple of small males but none were keepers. What would you have done to increase your odds in this situation? Go up river several miles? Or go towards the dam that was wide open? It's worth noting that this isn't a normal occurrence, at least I've never seen it this low.

Mono in 12 or 15 pound is still my go to. Only exception are my two heavy cover rods. I have 50 lb braid on them I’ve been using McCoys for the last 6-8 months and really like it.

Yes it’s legal to my knowledge. I haven’t found anything saying it isn’t. The lake is private anyways. It went from 2.5 acres to 5 about a year ago and wasn’t stocked. So we’ve all been adding a here and there. It’s definitely not over populated. My only concern is the potential of spreading some type of disease.

The KVD has 2 less bearing which I assume are in the handle knobs? If so who cares. Also the regular S3 has anti corrosion bearings instead of the ceramics the KVD has. But for 90% of us that’s no biggie either

Most everyone is going to say the SLX and Fuego. But I’d buy two Lews LFS. You can find them new on eBay for about $75-80 bucks. I still prefer it to my Daiwas and Abus that cost more. I even like it better than my more expensive Lews

In very stained water I like to add a chartreuse grub or something with a little extra flash. If the water color is normal I typically don’t attach a trailer unless I’m trying to bulk up or add weight to the bait. However if they are chasing Shad I will sometime add a paddle tail. Some people swear that adding a trailer will increase your hook up rate because the fish will go after the trailer instead of the blades. Honestly I haven’t noticed a difference

Thanks for the replies. Judging by their FB page and reviews they run a top notch service catching a limit full of 2-4 lb crappie. They buy new ranger boats each year and are sponsored by several companies including Denali rods. So on the surface they look like a really good service. I have high hopes and want to top my PB of 2.5 lbs. I have no problem tipping whatever is deserved. Just wanted to get an idea of what to expect. I don’t want to disrespect the guide if he delivers my expectations

The wife and I are going on a guided crappie trip this summer. I believe it’s $200 per person. They clean the fish afterwards. This will be my first ever guided fishing trip. I have always tipped guides on other outdoor adventures and assume this is no different. What is an acceptable tip? Do we have any guides here?
