Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

Had my boss and his son over today . Primary goal was bream. The 2nd bream Alex hooked , as he had it almost to the dock , a bass clobbered the bream and he hooked the bass right in the corner of the

  • So I went fishing today, and caught a 9#. Scale bounced between 8-15 and 9-2, but let's call it a 9, shall we? NLMB trout eater.   Super slow rolling a 8" weedless on the bottom in about 15

Prayers for you and your family @Dominat0r.

@BigAngus752 my wife doesn't like pitching heavy cover with me due to the risk of flying fish, and tungsten missles incoming at mach 2 when I miss one.

Sorry for your loss @Dominat0r. Cherish those good memories. Sounds like he was a good one. Prayers for your family.

Just pony up for a nice full-face fishing helmet and bedazzle it with moose feathers or somethin' fancy like that. She'll love it! The monkey never sleeps.

I was allowed out of the house last night for a little float with @TnRiver46.

Was told not to get home at ten. Got home at ten. We'll report later on the outcome of that decision, but it ain't looking great.

That said, it was a blast. I got a migraine right now, so you're not gonna get much of a story.

We looked in all the wrong places, I got hung up on almost every cast, and were harassed throughout by tiny fish, but we managed to catch a few and still bust a gut laughing at ourselves, so it was a pretty good night on the water.

Once we wised up and started fishing the rip rap, I caught a couple smallmouth on – of course – a ned rig.

Then I caught this one that ran about 16" or so. Biggest of the night.

It was. It also wasn't entirely our fault. We had to watch that barge do barge stuff.

I put a beatdown on 'em this morning, or vice versa, my thumb is thrashed and my first knuckle on my reeling hand is busted wide open. That knuckle used to stay that way from March until December until I finally wised up and put BIG knobs on my flippin reels.

Fished from 01:00-10:00. Didn't keep count but, we're talking @ol'crickety kinda numbers.?

Lots of dinks, but quite a few 1.5#-2.5# fish also, and I lost half again as many. The majority of 'em smoked the chatterbait from behind and kept coming. I was having a heck of a time catching up with 'em and getting any kind of a decent hookset. I got my cardio in, running to the back of the boat in an effort to stay tight on most hooksets. All the lost fish was frustrating, but the nonstop action made for a heck of a good time.

Best fish in the dark was this bone skinny SM. 20 3/8" and only 3.22#. I kinda felt bad for catching it. It's in bad need of a meal, but got a 5/0 to the face and boat flipped for it's efforts instead.

Once the lights came on, I went to pitching isolated patches of hydrilla outside the main weedline in the same areas I'd been fishing the chatterbait. That was a really good bite from 5:00 until about 7:30. Then it shut off and I only managed a few more dinks. Flippin rig with a black 4" senko and a pegged 3/16 was money. Best fish flippin was this 4.18# LM.

The chatterbait also put this 3# eye in the skillet. I'll post it here instead of the other species thread just to rattle @gimruis's cage. ?

Had a blast, and FINALLY found some decent numbers on that flat where all the late night mayhem went down last July. High hopes for that spot next week. Gotta work the next four, then I'll be off for four.

Isn't it awesome that we men run the world? LoL!

Nice work @T-Billy, you are right that smallmouth does not look well.  Needs a meal or two.

I'll let the walleye slide being that you posted bass photos too. :dribble:

Hit up a small local pond today that has a reputation as a good crappie hole.  Well apparently there’s more in there than crappie.

If there's a crappie fed bass pond, probably a giant bass or 5 in there.

Crappie seem to make bass fat and happy as far as I can tell.

The funny thing is I hear on all these podcasts with the pond management seminar type discussions that crappie ruin bass fishing and that they should be kept far away from lakes and ponds with aspirations of trophy fish, but I have seen the exact opposite on my small ponds and big lakes here in NC.

Usually if there's crappie, there's giant bass.  Seems like the bodies of water that DON'T have crappie, the average size of the bass is much smaller.

Well, its a somber day today.  I lost my father this morning. It was a long battle with cancer and I knew to expect it, but it was really hard today. I had to go and clear my head and catch my fish for the day. He use to fish when he was able and I know he loved doing it. So this is for you, the best man I ever known. Rest with the angels.

Fish for 7/19 (Day 46). Big one was 3lbs, next biggest was 2.75 and the smallest was just over 1.5. The 2 big ones were caught on the ball and chain (Carolina rig, AKA the Wife) and the smaller was caught on a whacky rig.

Please catch a big one in the lake in the sky for us, and we will fish together again one day. Ill bring the gear.

I'm hurting with you! You actually wont have long to fish with him again. You will think of your dad every single trip you take for the rest of your days. It's been thirty years since I said goodbye but I still feel him beside me every trip, and so will you! Only he's not telling me to shut  up and be still.?

That's got to be because Crappie can't swim as fast as BG, at least that's my opinion. When I'm feeding BG in my pond and a Bass attacks, they scatter as fast as shrapnel. Don't see how the bass ever catches one.

To be fair there are bluegill in there as well, however this is the biggest bass I’ve ever caught outside of a farm pond.

There's like six varieties of sunfish, including bluegill in most of the ponds and lakes around here, but the presence of crappie and/or some kind of shiner definitely seems to dictate whether or not there are giant bass similarly to trout out west etc

Id keep fishing that pond for sure.

My favorite lakes here in Minnesota are the ones that have both good largemouth and smallmouth fishing. Today was a good day, especially fishing after last nights electrical storm.… Caught a bunch of fish, most of them small/medium size, but was able to get a 19 inch largemouth and a 20 inch smallmouth. Slow rolling in spinnerbait in 12 feet of water just above the emerging weeds.

Thank you very much for that. I really appreciate it. Today was another sad day, watching all the family come in, lots of emotions. I had to break away and get my fish for today. Best part of my day today.

Day 47 of the streak, almost there.....fish for 7/20. I may continue as long as I can. Still feeling a bit down, but fishing really helps, clears my mind.....gives me some fresh air.

Someone explain this one, Mayan off a shaky head and zoom worm? First for that, they hit my lipless and my cranks, but never hit a worm......bass was also off a the shaky.

Out before the frontal line and accompanying storms today. Hot and muggy again. Managed 15 bass, but nothing of note size wise. Twelve came on Ned, along with a bonus crappie and gill, and 3 on swimbait. Supposed to be a bit cooler for the next several days now that the front has passed.
