Keeping it simple and basic...

Respooled the old green Curado last weekend with some fluorocarbon and then hit the water with deep cranks tied on.

Worked like a charm ?

Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

  • So I went fishing today, and caught a 9#. Scale bounced between 8-15 and 9-2, but let's call it a 9, shall we? NLMB trout eater.   Super slow rolling a 8" weedless on the bottom in about 15

Ned would be disappointed in you. How do you sleep at night using a different lure? ?

Nice bass BTW

Just wanted to share this, I got it early spring just to try out. It goes through the water really tight like a poorly steered canoe. Takes forever to work it back.

Meant to add that’s the first fish to bite it.

Enough of these (fun size) around today to keep me on the water most all day.

Just couldn't find any plus size models.

Been super busy on an internal medicine cardiology rotation, so it’s been 22 days since I’ve wet a line.

Had yesterday off and got a little ahead on my studying so I snuck away to a small 150 acre local lake late in the afternoon. This lake has a handful of 5+ lbers and is loaded with <2 lbers, and has the occasional pike. I got there around 5 PM and sunset is around 7:40 these days.

Started off in a little arm of the lake that’s super shallow and has thick grass and caught one on a frog.

Fished a lot of grass around the lake without another sniff until I made it around to the old creek channel lined by standing timber. Made a cast to the outside treeline with a shaky head in about 4 ft of water, when my line kept looking like it was sinking like it is was much deeper. I reeled down a little and the line took off sideways. I’m thinking it’s a little dink or panfish carrying it off so I give a weak little half hookset and the line goes tight and doesn’t budge at first but then tugs a little. It really felt like whatever was on there had me wrapped in the timber. Then I notice I am making progress toward me, but it still feels the same and I realize it must be a decent fish, although it had the dragging feeling like a stick. Bzzzzt!!! Starts peeling drag (luckily away from the timber) and the fight is on. Whatever it is it just feels heavy and doesn’t seem to be giving a lot of head shakes, not really like a bass, but more like cat fish or a pike or walleye. I finally get it close to the boat when it surfaces and to my surprise it IS a nice bass. After a few more dives under the boat I net my new PB for this lake 4.21lbs.

As the sun started to set the surface activity really started to pick up so I threw a frog at a grass line near the creek channel and caught 5 more ~2lbers.

Fun evening.

Finished up my Maine trip a day early with winds at 40+.never got any more over 3 odd for this time of year but got plenty mid to high 2's like these

Took an old neighbor of mine fishing this past week.  Her son passed away this past year and she doesn’t have access to a boat now.  She’s not a novice, absolutely nuts about fishing, but all she can do is fish from shore these days.

Took her out on a nice day and taught her how to skip wacky worms under docks.  We had a blast, nice to see her smiling!!

Best of 11 from a rare (for me) evening excursion tonight. Also the best bass I've had in at least a month...it's been dink-city here, otherwise.

i had taken the little johnny in for some engine work and went to pick it up yesterday. i decided to give it a test run so i put in at Lake Norman State Park, which was on the way home. i also just happened to have my rods and worm bag with me, wink wink. i caught 4 spots and this bonus largemouth in a couple hours of fishing. the boat ran fine too.

Got out Saturday afternoon and caught my best bass of the year so far.  This one must have been through a lot as you can see a portion of the dorsal fin is missing along with the entire upper half of the tail.  Measuring in over 20 inches and only 3.55lbs, I would have loved to catch her in her prime.  Still took advantage of the photo op since I had my wife out with me... we kayak fishermen don’t usually have the opportunity for good pictures lol

Nothing like a beautiful sunrise, flat calm water, and a big ole’ bass on topwater to start the day!

And on a side note, yes, those are a pair of $3.00 safety glasses I’m wearing. I’m glad a friend suggested them, because they are best I have found for those very early morning runs to your first spot!

Good fishing all, JB

I decided to fish off my dock this evening. I wanted to catch a small bream to live bait fish, and caught 10 or so with bread before getting the size I wanted. Hooked it on and threw it out. Kept seeing a decent bass blowing up on bream every few minutes. I kept fishing for bream too. Set the hook and caught this nice bass on bread and a tiny bream hook !

While I was getting the pic and letting it go, something was getting on my live bait rod. It ended up being this big soft shell turtle. Never a dull moment !20180927_195143-606x808.jpg20180927_195903-1288x966.jpg20180927_200225-1288x966.jpg

& A Bonus "Freshwater Cuda"

tTo2Gdo.jpg

5 lb 01 oz, 28 & 1/2''

Was throwing a Strike King 8XD Crankbait, and without a weight transfer system, the bait tends to helicopter in the air if you don't keep slight tension on the line. The line got hooked around the front treble causing the bait to spin near the surface. When I started to retrieve it... the bait spun two or three times, then I saw a big splash near the bait. I slowed the bait down a bit and the "Cuda" nailed it the second time. :)

This one crept right up in the grass at my feet and grabbed my crank. I actuall thought I was stuck in the grass until it started splashing.

Thanks she looked nice and healthy

You got a nice one there as well.

I was having a slow morning, just 3 or 4 smaller fish, when all that got turned around by this 5lb 7oz fish. I am really hoping this is a sign of things to come as the fall bite heats up hear in Minnesota. Caught on 1/2oz white/charteuse spinnerbait with a 3.75 Rage Swimmer trailer.

Also, I am trying to stop long-arming everything but it was seared into my brain by my dad when I was a kid and its a hard habit to kick haha

Hey don't worry about it this time.  When you have a 5 1/2 pound fish it never LOOKS long-armed even when it is!  Beautiful bass!

After a night of rain (yea, who would have believed it rained:rolleyes:) I headed to the lake. Started out with my usual spinnerbait but caught nothing. Tried a crankbait, swimbait and back to a spinner again with no luck. Pulled a bladed jig out of my tackle box and gave it a shot. That made all the difference. They loved the Z-Man chatterbait with a Rage Craw on the back. Caught 12 before the wind pushed me of the lake. Hopefully the weekend will be calmer.
