Lost several larger fish in the eelgrass.

I lose them there too, Mike. Eel grass is a "Get out of jail free" card for bass.

Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

Still getting bit shallow. I dumped what would have been the biggest fish of the year unfortunately. Lost her on a straight pull. The hook was fine and everything - just bad luck I guess.

Sad day.  According to the forecast it's probably over for the year.

Yep, I came to that realization on Tuesday myself.

10 day is showing no opportunities, who knows what Mother Nature throws us.

I mean, it IS Iowa.

We might be fishing two weeks from now.  :)

So true, unlike coastal Maine, where once it turns cold, it stays cold. FWIW, I love Iowa. I have family in Perry.

There's a frog that got completely swallowed for those who doubt that it happens.  Literally swung the instant she bit in pitch black and she was digesting it by the time I got her in.  A giant!  Long 6 lber and my first fish in the Spro Popping 60 in redear!

Jake caught his first fish on a glide bait and then we went back for more action and he caught his 2nd fish on a glide bait this morning and it was much bigger!

I saw some big swirls WAAAAY out beyond kingdom come and I threw my Spro popping frog probably 200 feet and started reeling slack out of my line and the frog burned for a couple seconds while my line straightened out - and then she hit.

It was the kind of bite we live for.  I set the hook and she launched her mass into the air and she took my breath away - my heart skipped a beat - time stood still.  Jake scaled a ravine and landed her while I fought her and brought her to the bank a good 6 feet below where we stood.

It was an incredible experience and a GREAT October frog fishing moment.  7 lbs 8 oz of MEAT.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Today looked to be the best of Thursday thru Sunday, so I decided to fish this morning. Only caught one on a blue/black jig. I was thankful for that. I think the bass was, too. After I removed the jig, I noticed it was gut-hooked with a dropshot hook and a dipsey sinker with a snap swivel, with the remnants of a plastic worm. I got the hook out with no damage and off it went.

However, I did have something whack a Siebert Fogy. I set the hook, the drag screamed and it was gone. After retrieving it back to the boat, the hook was completely bent open. Whatever it was, it was big.

Different day. Almost the same results lol. Hooked one on the blue/black jig. Maybe 12”. It flipped and flopped and threw the hook before I could boat it. I got zero bites on nothing else, except for one bass that hit a Siebert Fogy. Not huge, but it was a bomb cast so a fun fight. A front is coming through this afternoon so I had high hopes. Still a fun day, even after getting caught in an early shower and getting wet lol.

I'm going to call it and say my bass season has ended.  These are some of the little ones I caught this November.

@AbelG: What a fish!

@Bankbeater: I envy you fishing a full month after I quit. My pond was ice about ten days ago and we're getting seven inches of snow tomorrow.

Pics from 2 different days. First day was a dinkfest, but I did catch one that had stole my jig about a hour earlier, and I reached the goal of catching bass number 2025 for the year. It was bass number 88 of an 89 bass day.

next trip was cold and raining almost all day. It was really right on the threshold of my tolerance. The fishing was a little slower than I’d hoped but catching a 20” 5.20lb fish right when I was starting to think about how nice my warm bed sounded kept me out another 4 hours. I caught a couple more pretty solid fish and a bunch of smaller ones as a result.

Now there’s 4” of snow on the ground and it’s barely supposed to make it above freezing only a couple times for the next week, getting a jumpstart on the real cold stuff it seems.

Congrats, Clayton. 89 bass is quite a day! Our water is hard and my world is white, so  I'm glad you're still fishing, albeit barely.

Lots of tiny striper recently but the bass bite from the bank has died for me. Just these two dinks since mid November.

We got 12".

Hoping for a warm spell this month and I can go out sometime still this month.

Even just ONE fish would be worth it.

Just a handful of bites in 51-52 deg. water today, but a couple were good ones (7.73, 3.92). Air temp hit 46 with only a couple days over 50 this coming week. Both better fish came on Damiki Vault.

Nice.

The blade bait bite is one of my favorites.

Congrats.

I love it when a plan comes together!!!!

Went kayaking from the dock after work Wednesday and got a bunch of crappie, a big bass tried to eat one of them. Went back after work today and tossed a FishLab glide bait, lo and behold a nice bass hit it!! I swear the one I saw Wednesday was bigger but it was the exact same spot so maybe I was big eyeing it in the water. Still really cool and loads of fun.
