Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

Had my boss and his son over today . Primary goal was bream. The 2nd bream Alex hooked , as he had it almost to the dock , a bass clobbered the bream and he hooked the bass right in the corner of the

  • So I went fishing today, and caught a 9#. Scale bounced between 8-15 and 9-2, but let's call it a 9, shall we? NLMB trout eater.   Super slow rolling a 8" weedless on the bottom in about 15

Yup. waters getting cold and clear making their markings nice and vivid

Windy, warm day in Iowa.  Water temp 43.  Air warmed to 66 this afternoon.  Got 3 good ones and 4 smaller ones.  All on an old, brown wiggle wart.

He whispers to bass. Even half-frozen bass! His name is @Lottabass and his name is true.

I envy your 66-degree day, Al. We won't feel that again until May. Your first bass is beautiful, both long and thick.

Katie, you are too good to me.  Thank you!

Tough day yesterday, I got one little guy.

IMG_0374.jpg

Didn't get any today but found this dead gizzard shad.

Last weekend, fished the home lake. This is my favorite spot.

Boat is above the creek channel, in about 14' of water. Channel bends to right around the tree laying horizontal on right side of pic. Between the trees, center of the picture, it's 6-7' deep with humps and laydowns. I'll pull a spinnerbait a few times to see if there are any active bass feeding. Then work t-rigged 7" or 10" worms all over. If that fails, I'll switch to a weightless Senko.

If all else fails, the tree group on the left usually holds crappie.

Water clarity was ~3', which is very uncommon for this lake. Usually under a foot. Water temps were 41-45 degrees. I managed one crappie and this nice 19.5" | 3lb-6oz. LMB on a 10" blue fleck worm.

Might get out one more time before calling it quits for the season.

I like the pic of your beautiful bass, but I like the lake pic just as much. I love seeing where other bassheads catch fish.

Didja ever have one of those days when you left the lake scratching your head?  I caught 6 small bass and 2 crappie yesterday.  I fished hard and still never figured them out.

I'm in Iowa and it was 79 degrees when I left the lake!  Surface temp was up to 49.

Al @Lottabass, bass are a mystery wrapped inside a riddle boxed inside a conundrum. Only, one guy has cracked the code and aligned those cosmic tumblers: @N Florida Mike!*

*However, sooner or later, Mike will misplace the combination as we all do.

Our oldest daughter and her boyfriend flew down to visit as Thanksgiving travel is a hassle. We’re having Thanksgiving Dinner with them tomorrow. I “knew” he had something to talk to me about, but I did not know that he wanted to go fishing until just before they got here. So as my boat is a one-man affair, we fished off the bank. I rigged up a #956 Senko WR for him and I fished several different things. We each caught one bass, but his was bigger and he lost two, so my future son-in-law came out on top. Yeah, that’s what he wanted to talk to me about lol. He outfished me. How could I say no? 😁

@Lottabass Yes sir. I'm shocked that I have any hair on my head after my last two trips with one bass each trip. They're zigging while I'm zagging.

I went out and tried since it was a pretty day out. I give up haha. I threw everything I could at them even a good old weightless trick worm.  My bass have hid for winter I think haha. I didn’t bring my thermometer. But I’d imagine the small ponds I fish are just to dang cold. Our larger lakes are in the high 40s. So the ponds are probably cooler. Was still a nice day out. Bird nested my flouro reel horribly. Saw a couple muskrats. So it was an ok day lol.

Nice looking spot @DaubsNU1. Nice bass.

Fine crappie @Lottabass!

I just had to see after the weather stabilized(if you can call it that) and warmed some, if there were any bass still lingering with water at 45-46*. There indeed were but flat, low water made them really skittish. I got one smallie on a jerkbait and one on a drop shot with a mooch minnow. The drop shot fish hit on the fall. I also saw two nice largemouth for a bonus sighting

I went back with a few different baits to try for variety since bait had drastically pushed out. Well, not a bite or bass in sight. Decent SW wind had water going out and dropped levels which seemed to draw everything out. So I went to another spot to get my jerkbait fix and tossed around small hj’s in black/silver and black/gold on 8’ ULF rods with 8lb braid/4lb mono and straight 4lb mono respectfully and got perch and smaller walleye which was fun. I just love that jerk jerk stop…pop!

It was in the thirties all day here today. I'm envious that you Michigan and Iowa boys are still fishing.

It’s been super windy here the past week (15+ most days) which has kept me home.  This morning was 2-3 mph with a high of 5 mph for the day and that’s what played out.  I slept in to see my wife out for a girls brunch and left to get on the water for noon.  The sun was shining, the wind was nil, and there was no one when I pulled in.  Plan achieved.  Or so I thought.

The water still had a HEAVY algae bloom going on.  8” visibility or so.  And it was 47 degrees.  Cold water with low visibility is tough conditions.  No matter. The fish still have to eat.  Caught 4, missed another that grabbed it and ran straight at the boat before I had even clicked the reel over.  biggest fish just under 3#.  I’ll take that for 47 degree water and 47 degree air in November in NJ.

@Swamp Girl We got to 50 today, but had been in the 30’s steadily with a couple nights in the teens too

Those smalleyes were hyper aggressive, darting and chasing those little baits with gusto

I was dying to go out today but we are heading out on vacation tomorrow and I promised the wife I would do the last minute running around with her. Glad you ran into some fish. I ended up putting the transducer on that came with my helix 9; I was using 2D on the Terrova so hopefully when I get back I can give it a test run.

I haven't had a chance to bass fish since June.  I was able to get away for two days giving me one last chance to catch a DD in 2025.  I hooked a couple that may have made the grade, but I guess the big ones always get away.

Early on the first morning I did catch this skinny 7.4 pound bass.  It inhaled a Storm Arishi Cover Pop so far that half of the lure was outside the backside of the gills.  Amazingly the gills were not damaged and no sign of bleeding.  I gently removed the remainder of the lure out the back side of the gill.  I have removed single hooks this way, but never a full size lure with two sets of treble hooks.  I released the bass unharmed, to hopefully gain some weight.  I wish I would have taken a picture, but I was in a hurry to get in on more of the topwater bite.
