Super User king fisher Posted September 4 Super User Share Posted September 4 My In-laws came to visit, and wanted to go fishing. A friend of mine was kind enough to volunteer and take us out on his boat. We gave them the choice of going catch and release fishing for Rooster Fish, or trying our luck at Yellowfin tuna. They said they wanted to eat tuna, so we headed off shore. We landed 12 tuna. We also had a blue marlin hit on the way out to the tuna grounds, but it came off on the third jump. Good day for all, and we will be eating tuna for awhile.
Fried Lemons
Couple highlight fish from an otherwise slow day of fishing. I think the high sun had them deeper or less active than they were the previous trips. There were periods of cloud cover where they seemed to turn on for short spurts. Near the end of the day during one of those windows I hooked a huge speckled trout that thrashed and shook out the hook but not before I got a good look at the massive head and got a glimpse of the overall length. I hate to guesstimate fish size but it was way over citation which in Maryland is 26”.
Super User T-Billy Posted September 7 Super User Share Posted September 7 ALMOST doubled up today. Tammy got it done, but I couldn't seal the deal. I had a 40ish fish come in hot into the 8. Just as I was coming through the first turn, she said "fish on"! Mine chased my crank around three full laps before it peeled off, and I grabbed the net. Oh well, at least we got hers in the bag. 37.5" That was the only catch of the day. I missed three nippers, and we moved another three. They were chasing aggressively, but were shy about biting, just nipping at the rear hook.

That was exactly my experience this morning too. I hooked into a sizable muskie this morning but it spit the hooks when it jumped. Clearly just barely grabbed the back of the lure. I also had a bunch of pike do the same thing, even though I still caught 10 of those things. One was a 34 incher though, my biggest this season. It's starting to get good here now with water temps dropping to 71. Unfortunately, they'll probably be going back up again this week as it's supposed to be mid 80's all week.

Water's 74 in the main basin, and 71 up toward the creeks. We'll be back in the 80's here by Wed, but nights will be in the 50's so that'll temper the heat a bit. Hopefully enough to at least keep the water temp from climbing again. I have to work 6 days this week as I transition into my new schedule. I'll be off Sun, Mon, Tue going forward. My next trip will be next Sat night, right as we're coming into the full moon. It'll likely be the last hurrah for my 2024 night fishing.
Super User gimruis Posted September 10 Super User Share Posted September 10 My parents are pre-fishing for a walleye circuit championship event on Lake of the Woods this week and my Mother caught this 29 incher yesterday.
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 11 Global Moderator Share Posted September 11 If you're going to wait 5 hours for your first bite, at least make it a good one 🤣 40lb blue on cut carp. 5 minutes after she swam off, this 20lb flathead ate my sunfish.

IcatchDinks
My opportunities to go bass fishing have been rare and difficult. Water is low, everything is changing, fish are acting different, and I haven't had the time to invest on the water figuring them out. But I did manage a very nice pike last night.

Flaky white meat but with plenty of bones.
MassBass
The small mountain resort town, even over my lifetime, has become an international tourist destination, with traffic, drive through dunkins, and shopping centers. It was hard to see, hard to feel, the mountains. The whitefish, at least for me, has changed the vibe, the mountains have a presence, and a mystery again.

There is a lake I love in northwestern Ontario and I have had a recurring nightmare where they paved the bottom of it with cement, turning into a lifeless swimming pool, and had homes and Dairy Queens ringing it. Of course, turning a wild lake into a city lake would be some people's idea of Heaven. I'm so glad that the whitefish have resurrected your Heaven. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 13 Global Moderator Share Posted September 13 Man I need some of those Fallfish in my life. They look like giant creek chubs and I bet the big river blues and flatheads would eat them like candy 😂
Buzzbaiter
I went to a national forest in north Florida today. My target species were mud sunfish, bluespotted sunfish, banded sunfish, blackbanded sunfish, and fliers. I caught none of those. However, I did catch this warmouth in roadside ditch. I also found a couple of ponds, where I caught some coppernose bluegill and a dinky Florida bass. I’d like to come back soon to get my target species.

Super User T-Billy Posted September 17 Super User Share Posted September 17 It definitely ain't August anymore. Fish are scattered everywhere, and everyone I've talked to is struggling to get bit. It took me about 15 hours of grinding over a couple days to come up with this little 32". We need some cooler weather to bring 'em shallow. Some rain would be great also. We've passed severe drought and reached exceptional status, and there ain't much hope in the extended forecast.

airshot
My mother used to say that you needed a nice cedar board to cook the carp on, after seasoning well and baking it in the oven until done, you threw away the fish and ate the board ! Her famous Carp recipe !!
Peacedivision
First keeper striper of the season this morning on a duo pencil 110. Had a head and shoulders but was dang skinny, surprising with the amount of baitfish in the water right now. Donated to one of guys bait fishing the bank for dinner vs sport. Had another 7-8 rats on a tailspin, underspin & finesse swimbait
