I fear Academy is not far behind. I’ve been watching their fishing section slowly dwindle over the last decade while clothing and youth sporting, athletic apparel have taken over.

This is what happens when big, private equity firms take over these chain stores. ☹️

@Swamp Girl - I had said the same thing - no new lures/baits - yet once I saw your post I thought "If they are good enough for an elite level Maine-iac canoe angler then I better give them a try !" I had that happen last time I ordered minimaxes from them. All I had to do was send pictures and chat online with the customer rep and they sent me a replacement, got to keep the mini...the lack of a clasp is the give away.

@bishoptf yeah they were actually really cool about it. I get to keep the originals and the mini maxs have shipped out.

I caved and just ordered online and have to get free shipping which means I bought a boat load. Minimaxes, evo's, freeloaders, mooches and I wanted to finish it off with some trd's but for some reason they were not buy 3 get 3, bummer. I ended up getting some crush city ned rolls, guess we will see if they catch fish...

The pros were pulling them up on traps today. So, the weather was sunny, about 40, so why not go fish. Realized I’m not a pro. Lost both traps I threw. Went to academy to replace and all their clearance is an additional 50% off. I bought one baby bull rat for like $6. I almost bought a hatchet. Why? Because it’s a hatchet and it was on clearance with an additional 50% off. Next stupid question please?

Brian, you can do better. Academy sometimes has sales from $9.99 to $9.98. Seriously seen the sale tag and almost choked on my own spit..

Also, on a serious note, my academy had the duckett torch rod on clearance for $90 with an additional 50% off. I’ve heard good things about that being a decent $100 rod, so I’d bet it’s a steal at $45. YMMV…

A trap slays in the low 40s. I stick to red craw or a generic baitfish color

Yup that is what the Dicks sporting good store worker told me, that since we had a Bass Pro Store in our location they decided to remove the fishing section... unfortunately for me they do not have sales that are near as good, sigh. Academy appears to be doing the same thing, fishing section getting smaller and smaller.

Stopped into my local Ollie's, they had 25 ct packs of Big Bite Baits Cane Thumpers for $1.99 and Dobyns Spinnerbaits for $3.99. I grabbed some of each, a few packs of tubes, a pack of gillys and a shad rap for $48 and change

What location are you seeing these, I went to one of my local ollies around st louis and they have nada fishing related...really wish they would.

New Hampshire. Their selection of fishing tackle is about 4 feet wide, but I check back every week or so
