Bait that you set aside

Featured Replies

What bait or baits have you  just stop throwing that you  once thrived on using? I have so many 7 inch ribbon worms (culprits mostly) that use to fish on every trip. Don't know why I put them on the shelf. Bladed jigs just about took over my spinnerbaits too.

I stopped throwing a lot of Power Bait stuff. Why? I dont know.

Worse thing about bout it is, I believe it is good stuff. Has always been very productive for many many years. I don’t want to go way out on a limb and claim it’s the best there is. But, it’s good stuff. Just doesn’t get on my hook much these days.

Spinnerbaits and Mimic Minnows... and yet both still work very well..

Mann's jelly worms.

Caught my PB on one so Im not sure why I dont. I think its because I only have the smaller black ones left in stock , and I caught more with the bigger grape ones.

Im not much of a " order on line " fan,  and they arent in stores much around here.

Does the banjo minnow count ?

Weightless fluke for me. Has caught a ton for me, maybe need to go back to it.

I rarely throw a tex rig worm at all, i normally just throw a jig instead it seems.

I also have a few lures i set aside because i cant get them anymore, like a particular spinnerbait blade and my WEC cranks. Those only come out for serious times.

Rat-L-Traps. I feel like I've almost abandoned this bait since I really got into using swimbaits.

Poppers, I like fishing them but rarely reach for them anymore.

Slug-go, cannot remember the last time I actually used one? These were my #1 bait period years ago.

The jig and pig. I use to fish jigs a lot but for the past half dozen years I have rarely used them . I  use a texas rig .

I use to fish the Original Floating Rapala almost exclusively along with a 7" Berkley Powerbait Worm. I haven't tied the Rapala on in over 3 years and truly have no idea why. It use to be such a confidence bait for me. Now it seems I'm grabbing a Whopper Plopper or a Pop-R for my topwater applications. I think because both of those baits have seemed to produce bigger sized bass for me.

And as far as the Berkley Power Worm goes, it still see's it's fair share of action. Generally in the 8.5" now though as i have started targeting Quality over Quantity.

T rigged worms and craws and creatures. I know that's crazy because they work so well, but I started forcing myself to use the jig and the fish got bigger.

Deep diving crankbaits. I fish some very weedy  and shallower places so the lipless crank took over.

I quit using ribbon tail worms for years after I started catching so many on baby brush hogs. I have since started using them again. I also need to start using poppers more. I have caught some good fish on them.

For the past few years I haven’t used tubes at all. I have them in the box, but I never seem to fish with them.

craw worms, but that’s fixin’ to change!

This. Also, remember the Pork-O made by Strike King? One of the best baits ever IMO. Wish they still made them.

Gambler baits.  I got tired of the garlic and salt all over everything but these baits did catch fish.

Ha! I love Gambler baits, and put down Power Baits because of the weird smell they have. The PB ribbon tails and grubs are great fish catchers for me, though.

Deep diving cranks. I all but stopped using them because of shoulder issues. Got the shoulder back close to normal, but the big cranks are still sitting in the box.

Red shad Culprits, buzzbaits, floating Rapalas, Slug-O's, and more. These would all work as well today. Too many choices.  So little time. When I was a teenager it was either a Hubbard Sparkle-Tail (local crank bait) or a Gapen Hairy Worm. In creeks it was a #1 Mepps.  Life was simple.

Only ones that have been discontinued!

In my tackle boxes you'll find more ole school lures than new ones!

If it aint broke quit trying to fix it ?

This is how fisherman are. Always looking for something better, when you probably already have the best.

I used to use a lot of tubes, power worms, and spinnerbaits

Got away from them for a long time.

Now they are back to being in the rotation.
