Listening to music while bass fishing

Featured Replies

So I was wondering what the thoughts are about music while bass fishing. I understand they can feel vibration with the lateral lines. But can they hear?

Any issues with ear buds? If so any issues with just one earbud in so I can hear both my surroundings and my music?

Probably rudimentary but I am curious on the different thoughts on this.

If you do listen to music what is your favorite bass fishing music. I have to say mine is Floyd, Zeplin or doors type music.

Thanks.

I've caught some of my biggest bass while listening to music on my boat.

Sometimes I think it attracts them :)

I destoryed the Smallmouth last summer with a crankbait while listening to Metallica.

Headbanging at 5am while slaying smallmouth....nothing better

I like listening to the sounds of nature and have caught quite untold numbers of fish that tipped me off because of their splashes or feeding sounds they've made that I wouldn't have heard if I was listening to music.

I have listened to probably hundreds of hours of medical school lectures while fishing. ?

I have a music app running in the background on my tablet - which is my GPS/Mapping unit. Low enough to hear what's going on around me, but loud enough so that sometimes I'm singing along with a favorite.

Bill dance says that 90 something percent of sound is reflected off the top of the water, thereby not affecting the fish at all.

Music playing while fishing would be a huge distraction for me. It irritates me when I can hear it from the pontoon and pleasure boats from a distance.

Doesn't bother me one way or another! ?

About 90% of the time I listen to music.  I fish a fair amount at night and unless I am fishing topwater it let's me tune out everything else...including the beavers slamming their tails.  Lol

Forgot to answer this one earlier - I'm heavy into Symphonic Metal right now...Within Temptation, Nightwish, Tarja. Note that these artists are almost unknown this side of 'The Pond'.

No musica when I'm fishing, although I may hum a few bars of some songs..

No music on the water. Whatever I was listening to on XM while driving gets stuck in my head, though. Kinda fun fighting a bass to Van Halen "Jump".

@lo n slo Aint nuthin can distract me from fishing ?

Fishing for me is about waaaaay more than catching fish.  It's about a disconnect from the modern world.  I carry no cell phone, no camera.  The boat I fish from most of the time has no electronics of any kind with the exception of a trolling motor.  The lake I fish has no pleasure boaters.  70% of the time, I'm the only boat on the lake.  I need that disconnect.  My soundtrack is nature.  I went with a buddy one time that insisted on playing music and was miserable.  I couldn't get into the head space I like to be in to fish.  I'm not really thinking, I'm just reacting to my surroundings and conditions.  Relying on experience and muscle memory.  That's a good place

I don't listen to music while I fish. I just like it quiet. If I did listen it would probably be old school country. Merle, Hank, Buck, and Johnny Cash

Usually no music here. I do listen to some college Football sometimes. I just prefer it quiet.

I am not a fan of listening to 'music' while bass fishing.

My version of the outdoor experience never includes it.

When I'm hunting big brown bass, music seems counter productive.

As for ear buds - can't imagine deliberately blocking out the audio environment.

Too much to miss, from an angling, nature & safely stand point.

And for the anglers who feel differently, I'm totally good with that.

However, the select few who selfishly feel the need to subject me to their 'music' from 100 yards away,

I can do without.

YMMV

I am also not a fan of playing music while fishing.  As others have said I let the outdoors play my sound track for me.  I go fishing to get away from all the noise of everyday life.

I am 47, been fishing pretty much my whole life and have never listened to music when I fish.  I can listen to music anytime but I can't fish anytime I want.  I just don't put the two together.  To me it sort takes away from being out in nature, away from work.  It does drive me absolutely crazy though when I see a fisherman (see one almost every week fishing tournaments) playing country music at full blast on a lake.  Sorry to say, I am not fan of country and I think if you want to listen to it, fine, at least respect the others fishing with you or near you.  If you're pleasure boating, I say go for it.  You are there to have a good time. I really have never had an issue with anyone doing this but oddly its just other fisherman.
