Goodbye to a Good Friend

Loading up and leaving for Okeechobee tomorrow but as fate would have it, we had to put our dog down last night.  I am not sad. It was done here at home and he went very peacefully. He was the most you could ask for in a dog.  He has been slowly failing over the last few months.  He is our second Weimaraner and both have been fantastic dogs.  The first was really my dog and he bonded 100% with me.  This dog I got for my wife for when I was traveling and out of town a lot.  Through his training, I made sure he bonded with her first.  He was 120 pounds of protection for my wife and house.  He did his job well and was also a very loving pet to my daughter who basically grew up with him.  The house seemed a little empty this morning having my coffee and him not laying at my feet.  Rest In Peace Cobey.

Beautiful dog.  I know your family will miss him.

Beautiful dog and happy to hear your dealing with it well.

I on the other hand come completely unglued when a family dog passes, kinda embarrassing but it really stings.

I really hate these posts as I know how much a dog can mean to someone. Your kids and wife can all be mad at you and act like they don't love you but your dog will always love you at anytime. Even after I scold my dog for doing something wrong, I can call her and she will lay her head in my lap to show me she still loves me.

He was beautiful. I feel for your loss. We're a lab family, had to

put Jake down the summer my mother died. That was a rough

year. All the best to you and your wife.

I hear you.  When our last one went I was a mess.  This time it’s my wife.  As a dog owner all my life, you “know” when it’s time.  I was totally at peace with it and I really think he knew as well.  He was ready.  He was 14 years old and for a big dog, that’s a long life.

Ahh

Sorry to hear it.
My family went through it a few times over the years and it’s never easy.

Ahh yes, the 14 years of happy life would definitely help ease the pain.

Thanks for sharing.

Totally understand 'when it's time'.

Still take a little piece of me - each of them.

He knows he was loved.

Hope the Mrs can feel better soon.

Losing a beloved pet can be tough. Really tough. Sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss, they are definitely more than pets and truly are family.

Sorry for your loss. The joy they bring outweighs the pain.

Unfortunate passing @TOXIC but its the memories that you will have forever.  And based on the photos you posted, I'm sure there are many.

Sorry for your loss.

We’ve been there a few times having lost two in less than ten days and a third a little over a year from the other two. We have another one we’ve started having the discussion so it’s coming sooner than later again.

What a bummer man..sorry for your loss. Its amazing the bond you can form with a pet. At least you know you did the right thing for him...you can find peace and Solace in that.

My condolences. Sorry to hear it
