Will High Gas Prices Affect Your Fishing?

Not one bit. Since we moved I have two new to me lakes Less than 10 minutes from our house we’re going to explore this year.

I’m pretty fortunate that for the last 12 years I’ve had a company truck I get to take home every night so my personal truck gets less than 40 miles a week put on it so the gas prices don’t hurt me as much as most. Mrs. 12poundbass is a traveling dog groomer so she’s had to adjust her prices a tad to offset the gas prices though.

  • One reason I run a 16' Alweld with a 40 hp Tahotsu.   Easy to tow & I can fish 2-3 days on 6 gallons.

  • Just a short time ago...those were the days!

  • The surplus of money I had from quitting my pack-a-day smoking habit last year [that went towards my fishing habit] now ends up in my gas tank... which is kind of sad. It was a good run.

I think when you have something like that, you don't worry about gas prices. :)

only 300 horses each, small potatos.

Nope. I will keep my boat filled up. I am not going to let dumb stuff ruin what I enjoy doing.

it cost 125 to fill up my boat from about half way for my two day tournament this weekend. I would do it again next weekend too.

Good for you for quitting though. I know firsthand it's hard.

Thank goodness I have a newer Ford Ranger that gets about 27 mpg.

That's pretty good mileage.  I might be considering a Ranger when the time comes to replace my current F-150.  I have to imagine that the mileage drops a fair amount when towing a boat though.  If you don't mind me asking how big is the fuel tank on the Ranger?

Well, I quit about 25 years ago. But it was not an easy process. I told my ex-wife to nag the hell outta me, as was her specialty. I decided one day I wouldn't buy any more cigarettes, but I would bum one here and there, especially when having a drink around other smokers. Then it became so infrequent that one day I realized I hadn't smoked in weeks, maybe months. I was no longer dependent. I really don't know how people afford it anymore. Generics are now double what Marlboro and Winston used to be. It's crazy. Now, when someone offers me a cigar I politely decline. I worked too hard to quit just to entertain another form of the habit.

It shouldn’t effect my fishing. I am blessed to live less than a 10 minute drive to the river. I could walk there if I really wanted to. Kayak fishing helps as well.

Work on the other hand is 58 miles away. 116 miles round trip. I have a hybrid work from home, in office schedule. If I had to go 5 days a week into the office I would not be able to afford it.

Sorry @throttleplate, didn't meant to offend...post edited

I dont even remember what you posted or if i was able to read it before you took it down.

If i gave you a sad emoji dont go by that to determine if you offended me. I give emojis at times to be a sarcastic jerk at times.

Believe me if you offended me to the point of upsetting me i would let you know. I am not a woke person so have at me, be sarcastic, be mean, be real, jab me, poke me. Ok take care now and enjoy your day.

Congratulations on quitting smoking, not everyone is strong enough to do so. Nicotine is extremely addictive and the cigarette companies only care about making maximum profit, to them people dying from smoking is just ''the cost of doing business''. Smoking is one of the most disgusting and unhealthy things a person can do to their health.

One thing to note - we could be paying what others are...we're kinda spoiled here in the US cause we have some of the cheapest gas of all the industrialized countries/territories

May 16, 2022 average prices - in US dollars/ US gallon

USA - $4.66

UK - $7.70

Denmark - $9.32

Hong Kong - $10.96

Trying to predict the volatility of the market is like trying to hit the bullseye on a dart board with a Claymore at 50 paces...while blindfolded.

It’s not just fuel.  I had money saved to upgrade my fish finder and add a motor to my kayak.  I invested it instead.

I’m leaving for my spring smallmouth trip in the morning. 416 miles each way. The additional cost of fuel will add about $125 to the cost of the trip. That’s quite a bit, but not enough to change my plans.

Experts say we may have $6.00 a gallon gas by the end of the summer.  If so, will this change your fishing?

It might not change my fishing but its going to hurt the wallet. I just got back from Lake Champlain. The 800 mile trip up and back cost me $265 in gas for the car. I usually spend less than half that much. In addition eating out was up significantly.

Fortunately my 4 stroke Suzuki is great on gas.

Keri and I have a combined age of 114 years. Tomorrow's not guaranteed and we're not going to let fuel prices stop us from enjoying ourselves while we still can.

The only way the gas price would have an affect on my bass fishing is if the Tactical Bass Guys made a video of them pouring gas on their lures, drastically improving the catch rates of the gas soaked baits.

It's too bad we never were able to be "energy Independent"...we never were, right?

All this time! I just thought you got sad when somebody made a joke or recommended a soft plastic rigging method

Weird.... I am 49 and the guy I fish with is 65.  We just said the same thing. We are fishing a two day tournament with a chance of heavy rain and wind both days.
