What is your favorite braid

Featured Replies

I am looking at new braid for my rods and have been looking between the Seaguar Smackdown, the PowerPro Maxcuatro, and the Daiwa J Braid. Which do you guys like the most?

Sufix 832

I like Sufix 832, but of the three asked about, I also like Seguar Smackdown.

Seaguar Smackdown when I can afford it

Sufix 832 otherwise.

From your list, I would take the J-Braid.

I'll agree with others that Sufix 832 is rounder and better-behaved than most braids.

The better braids I use include Florida Fishing Products (likely Varivas), YGK on spinning, and Duel X-wire on baitcaster.

Tried Smack Down and replaced it with Fins Sling Braid.

Mostly Seagur smackdown. I also use Diawa samurai in certain applications.

Smackdown

832 is the only braid I've been able to get along with.  Not tried smackdown, but I'll check it out next time I am ordering.

832 and original Power Pro, neither ever let me down.

From your list Smackdown but I prefer Sunline SX1 or Asegai

832

I haven't tried Smackdown yet. But I went back to regular Power Pro on my heavy grass set ups. And I pulled off the J-braid I had on my spinning reels and put on yellow Berkley X9.  I like it so far.  The X5 is pretty good stuff too.

I have not tried a lot of the braids mentioned, but I have tried quite a few and there is a big difference in how they fish.  I think the biggest factor is the number of "carriers", or strands.  Old, standard , braids have 4, the newer, premium braids have at least 8, and they are definitely worth the money.  Smaller diameter for the strength, better casting, fewer tangle problems, IMHO.

My favorite is Hitena Pureline which has 12 strands in its 19 pound test, which casts like a lot of 10's.  It is pricey, but lasts for years.  Suffix 832 is excellent, also.  It has 8 strands + 1 Gore strand to increase its density.

I also use Hitena fly tippet for leader, preferring Aquanix XT in 14.6 pound test most of the time.
