Okay, Just found out they going to use fluorocarbon resins in E-vehicles and batteries more and more. So the direction we heading I am almost sure that we going to have higher prices on fluorocarbon lines and even shortage by next couple years.

@Catt's going to be heartbroken.?

You guys know how to fix this. That's all I will say.

I hope it makes better batteries than it does fishing line.

Mono and copoly lines do everything that FC lines do.

Better things to worry about. Like, do I get two breakfast sandwiches or one breakfast sandwich and grits and eggs on the way to the lake in the morning.?

Well...get your line orders in now, boys and girls.

 What will happen if fluorocarbon fishing line costs $100 a spool?   Anglers will go back to using mono and no one will notice any difference.  ?

Oh there’s a difference. You can feel it right away, some people love it some don’t

Or it could have the opposite effect.  If fluorocarbon has more uses with higher profit margins, then there will be more factories making it.  It might increase the world's supply of polyvinylidene fluoride pellets and suppress prices.  The fishing market isn't very big compared to the automobile market.

Yeah, fishing line is a very small % of the raw materials, has a very healthy margin, and elastic demand, so I doubt it will have a negative (from the consumer's view point) impact on the price or availability of fluoro fishing lines.

Based on the cited article, gas cars already use fluorocarbon.  If excess incremental demand is met with additional supply then price increases aren’t inevitable.  Basic MicroEcon 101 stuff. Sometimes, it’s best just to wait and see.  In addition, as noted by others above, there currently are reasonable substitutes available, so no need for panic buying.

I am paying more then a hundred dollars a spool. 1000 yrd spool of 12# Diawa Samurai is 120.00.  1000 yrds of Seaguar Invisx is 106.00. A 1000 yrd spool of 12# Tatsu is 241.00 on TW.

I do get a lot of changes out of a spool though.

I believe its liquid fluoro like whats used in medical applications? I might be wrong but I think it's unrelated to fishing line and doubt fishing line makes up a large volume of overall fluoro use
