I’m making the switch to braid (15 lb) and kinda shocked by the price! What’s a decent line for the money-I don’t need to fish the best but certainly want a fair price for what I get performance wise.

Sufix Performance.  Color fades, but that doesn't affect performance.

While the upfront cost of braid may be a shock to some, it’s going to last years. I have braid on some of my reels that’s four years old. To answer your question, I recommend Seaguar TactX.

I use Fins Braid.  They have lots of options at different prices.  40G is their premium line and it is excellent.  I also use Spin5 and have been very pleased with it.  It’s the in house brand of BBS Tech in Kentucky that makes a lot of braid lines for different companies. I like knowing where the stuff I buy comes from.

I have Fins in XS, Original PRT, Windtamer, and 40G.  However, my first braid was 40# Sufix Performance.  It was mostly white after 4 years.  Only reason for changing it at that time was due to casting a 3/4 oz. spoon tied direct for about 8 hours.  Hard to beat its price.

I’m on season 4 of the same 832 30 lb. In the spring I use it for lipless. Then swimjigs and light Texas rigs. I’ve moved it between reels and swapped ends once. It’s not the cheapest braid and it’s not the most expensive. But it’s a great braid nonetheless.

Sufix 832 is an excellent braid at a fair price. Fins Infinity and XS Big Game are also excellent and made in America.

One thing a lot of budget conscious guys do is flip their braid when it gets worn. 

 

Tie the end of your braid to a tree, take it all off of your reel. Next, put it back on your reel starting with the end tied to the tree. When you're done all of the used line is on the inside, and the fresh braid is on the outside.

I don't know what line I'm running, as it was on the reel when It was gifted to me. It's faded, but is still working just fine. I'm going to switch it end for end.

 

I like braid for some things, such as texas rig fishing, but I'd loath having to use it for everything. The worst thing I've done with it is using it for a walk the dog type topwater. It ends up getting into the hooks, then into the split rings.

Sometimes you can get pretty good deals on bulk spools of Suffix 832 on Amazon.

 

I bought 600yd spools of 10lb for spinning reels in dark green and hi viz green for a relatively good price, but you have to watch because those deals come and go.

I've been hesitant to post Florida Fishing Products on this thread, because they're simply OOS in threadline sizes.  

But I fished a spool of their 15-lb 4 years inshore.  

I believe this line is supplied by Varivas, but it was my first taste of high-grade Japan x-braid ($18/ reel-charge spool).  Worth watching for them to restock.  

150 yard spool of powerpro at Walmart is around $14. It’ll last years. I only change it when it gets low on spool from retying

I don't remember Sufix Performance being noisy through the guides.  Was visiting in Florida when I had to change the line.  I went to Walmart and got 40# Original PowerPro.  Was quite noisy going through the guides.  Noise doesn't make it a bad line.  Just thought I'd mention my experience with it.

 

40# Original PowerPro is all a B-I-L of mine uses on his spinning rods.  Spinning is all he uses.

Original powerpro is outdated. It's a noisy 4 strand with a coating that wears off.sufix 832 and Berkeley x9 are good. I personally have graduated to vicious no fade brand which is better than both of those.

Am I the only on who loves the high pitched whine of tight braid on a bass in slop?

I run suffix 832. I tried power pro. Loud would tangle seemed to snap extremely easy. If power pro was the only braid on the market I would not run braid.   I tried spider wire if it was my only option I’d use it. My favorite braid is cortland masterbraid but, I am too cheap for that.

Sufix 832 in hi-vis green is my favorite, Seagar Smackdown gray in heavier versions gets used as well.

It depends what you want to put it on.  X9 is good for the price, it casts and handles really well.  Its not as durable as 832 or PP, but it handles better than both.  832 is good, but you want to stay at #10 or less as you really notice a decrease in casting distance.
