Line Snippers?

Featured Replies

IME, if I use scissors that cut braid well to also cut mono and fluoro line they will become less-than-great- at cutting braid. I try to keep my braid scissors strictly for braid. Eventually I invariably end up using them for mono and fluoro and eventually they become duller to the point that they don't cut the braid as easily and cleanly. I've tried at least four of the ones I have seen mentioned above and they seem to all suffer the same fate.

this is why i like the fiskars scissors. they can be serviced/sharpened fairly easily

  • If its for cutting line I just use scissors.

  • I’ve got probably a dozen pairs of scissors scattered around the boat. The kids’ size Fiskars from Wally World don’t have any problem with braid.

When I go out I just attach the retractable lanyard to my nose ring. It’s very handy that way.

I dont use much braid. Its on my frog rod only. If I cant cut it with scissors, my pocket knives are kept razor sharp.

I just use the cheap rapala scissors that are $5 at fleet farm

How do you like it @Columbia Craw?

I have a Boomerang snip attached to my pfd. The best thing I find about them is the convenience attached to the retractable leash, always at hand and never looking for them.

I do find them a tad small (in my hands) and will only cut braid cleanly at the tips. Cuts nylon/fluro/mono just fine but braid only snips clean if cut on the end of the blades. Thereby creating another problem, accidentally catching the main line or knot at the same time!

Maybe mine might be a bit worn and didn’t notice the cut decline until it became obvious, leaving frayed ends on braid.

All in all they are a handy set of decent snips which I wouldn’t hesitate to buy again but since I mainly use braid I prefer something a bit bigger in hand and a clean cut every time.

Yea, I have one on my pack as well...but I use it as a micro flashlight!

I have the one with the light on it.

It has cut everything I've used it on...though it's not my primary snipper.

The retractable lanyard is indeed handy.

I just use that cheap rapala scissors @gim showed. I’ve used it in 50lb FC 80lb braid and shoe laces, shirts, plastic, decals etc. the true secret behind cutting line is making sure it’s taunt before you cut it.

From the kayak or the bank in need either convenience or multipurpose. Boomerang is very convenient and definitely works. Had a pair for a few years perfectly until they got dull.

I grabbed these the beginning of the season and they cut limp braid easily, plus they're multipurpose as a strong enough pliers to untreble my bass. And convenient coming with a belt holster and lanyard.

I saw the Pitbull "Cutter" today and threw down $12.99 for them. We shall see. . . .

I think ALL braid snippers work great.  I have so many.

I even picked up a pair of micro serrated kitchen shears that cut beautifully.

I have the little blue handled Cuda’s.

Very pleased with them and would highly recommend.

Cuda makes a 5 1/2” mini snip for braid.

^ I use the 3" micro-snips myself, attached to a retractable lanyard clipped to my belt.

Yep, those are the ones.

Not expensive and work well.

I just use a set of toenail clippers I bought for $1.99. The work fine for mono, floro or braid. I have been using them for a couple of years and have not had to replace them yet.

I’m a cuda fan myself as well. However, bass pro had a pair of red handled ones that are now discontinued. I like them a lot better and only have one pair left.

I use Cuda but tried the Rapala multi tool and was sorely disappointed.  It is too heavy for a lanyard and it rusted after 1 trip.  I contacted Rapala and they claimed it was natural for stainless to rust and refused to do anything.  Very bad customer service.

I use the small cuda scissors and nail clippers in the garage, boomerang snip always in my backpack. I tried the pittbulls and they're ok but I feel like they're a lot bigger than necessary. Maybe if you're constantly working with super heavy test line, they're overbuilt for a line cutter.

I have a Boomerang attached to my life vest. The cheap kids safety scissors cut braid really well and you can get them for less than a dollar once the back to school stuff goes on clearance so if a pair starts to dull, just swap them out for a new pair. I lose them too fast for a pair to ever go dull.

I was in a locally owned outdoor store here in Iowa and the guy that helped me said the Boomerang clippers were invented by a guy here in Iowa.

He was an older guy and I have no reason to believe he was making it up.

At the time I never heard of them so I held off on purchasing.

Lots of good reviews here though.

I use a pair of Simms Nippers that I wear on a lanyard around my neck.   I have a bunch of cheap rapala scissors for braid.
