Air temps early season up here, which is prime time for plus-size fish,

often start out a little on the cool side.

I hate wearing gloves while fishing, so I grin and bear it.

I've fished in those temps as well, but that's past history. Now days, by the date you are displaying, I'll have been wearing T shirts and shorts for about a month and a half (probably). Don't blame you for having an annual wintertime retreat to Mexico.

They keep telling me it's going to end eventually. But I'm really concerned that my Qualude stash might not last that long. 🥴 A-Jay

I love the “cold” here, because it’s usually not so bad. The sun will make even days below freezing good fishing unless it’s windy. The rod freezing is the only problem, might try a hack for that one of these days. Lots of walleye fisherman just make a fire on the bank

@Jigfishn10 I remember the playoff game in Jan 2016 between the Seahawks and Vikings. It was at the Gopher football stadium because US Bank Stadium was being built. Kickoff was -6 and wind chill was -25. Seattle won 12-10 because Blair Walsh missed a 29 yard FG as time expired - and he missed it badly.

Bud Grant ran out with the players that day rocking nothing but a t shirt. When they interviewed him about it, that's when his infamous quote came out.

Florida's winter is at its worst right now! Can you imagine waking up to snow and ice on the ground? I mean we had actual ice or frost on the grass today until 10am. Unheard of. Roofs next door looked like they were covered in snow until first rays of sun hit them.

Now its 51 degrees and freezing! On a warming trend for nearly a week. We hope this is our one and only freeze this winter. Already got to one plant in the yard. Hope it survives the great winter freeze of 2026.

I walked across the frost covered grass just to hear and feel the rare feeling of an ice crunch in the yard. Only happens maybe once a year if that. Reminds me of why I live in Florida in the first place!

Oh well, back to fishing once temps get back above 60 warm enough for shorts, t-shirt and flip flops as normal again!

Its a terrible freeze in Florida when we look outside and see white on the ground. And it lasted until 10am! Usually gone at first light, but it hung around an hour or two. Should of made national news!

I hate to admit this but I remember rooting for his Viking teams in the SBs. I say I hate to admit it not bc of rooting for the Vikes but showing my age … haha

100 car pile up 45 minutes west of me. It stopped snowing but with it being so cold the snow is light and fluffy, pair that with high winds and you have whiteout conditions. 12* so salt doesn’t help with road clearing.

Had my first “oh crap” of the season last night and the second this afternoon.

Last night we were going to the local social club which entails a road which is barely wide enough for 2 cars when it’s fully clean. We came around a blind bend and a pickup with plow was coming the other way. I moved over quickly and a couple inches too far. Enough to get both passenger wheels off the edge of the blacktop. Not a problem, right? 4WD and drive it right back up on. Not last night. The snow was so slick that even low lock wasn’t gripping enough to get the front wheel back up. Had to ride it in the gutter like that for 50 yards until I hit a driveway crossing the curb.

Then this afternoon I went to blow snow and the blowers (blades?) don’t work. Grip down the handle and nothing. Check the shear pins, check for blockage, nothing. Grip down the handle and notice a lot of play where the cable meets the steel rod that controls the clutch. Manually move the clutch arm? Fires right up. Turns out the cable had stretched just a little too much. Nothing a little adjustment couldn’t fix. Good thing too because shoveling that would have been a pain.

Approaching frostbite-type stuff up in here ~

When the temperature is zero degrees Fahrenheit or below,

it takes about 30 minutes for exposed skin to get frostbite.

At 15 degrees below zero with even a little bit of wind, frostbite is possible within 15 minutes.

DC and my area in Virginia is in the crosshairs now. Hopefully the forecasters are over hyping it. I’m supposed to be heading south at the end of the month. Towing through ice is no fun, ask me how I know. 😛

We head almost 2" of snow on Sunday morning here in mid-south Georgia. By afternoon almost all of it had melted.

On Saturday I'm supposed to fish in a tournament down on Lake Seminole which straddles the GA-FL border. Right now it's calling for a high of 38 that day with winds 10-17 mph and a 40% chance of snow and a 42% chance of ice.

Honestly, tournament or not, I have no intention of being out there on my kayak if that weather holds.

We got a 24hr break from the snow but not the cold. High today was 12* with windchills hovering around 0*. Another 3-6” predicted for early morning and ending around 10am with a high of 17.

Friday and Saturday are going to be the brutal cold days with highs in the single digits and lows -15. Winds Friday, 15-27 mph, pushing the windchills as low as -30.

Fun times!

We are expecting that here Friday - Sunday. May not rise above zero for 72 hours.

Wind chill to the north of me might reach -50 on Friday morning.

I have been waiting for a day where I could clean the eight inches of snow off of the property where the temperatures were not below zero without the wind chill. Looks like tomorrow will be the first time. It'll be in the teens with a little less wind. After that, it gets crazy cold again. Like really crazy cold. So I'm gonna forego my training and just clean the snow. And then hide the basement all weekend and watch football.

We're suppose to get hammered here.

I have 10 dairy cows being delivered today and a Charmin truck sitting in the driveway 😅.

It's going to get a bit chilly here in MN....meaning it's going to get cold enough to kill you. I have lived here for 20 years - and enjoy many aspects of living in semi-rural MN - but sometime within the next 10 years I will move to a warmer climate (I love the change in seasons so probably NC/SC region).

As my Navy Seal uncle says -- "Everyone gets cold. Some people complain about it."

Those lows will be here Friday night albeit 10* warmer. At those temps, I vote we get a pass in the complaint department. 😁

And you're pushing those temps this way ... 12pound, you're a curse, you know that? My Jeep better start once these temps push thru 😄

Went from 60 to 3 with a foot of snow coming this weekend.Got to love Missouri weather .

  • Super User

our forecast keeps shifting (to more snow) and we're up over 14" forecast now, starting in 48 hours. Also happening over those 48 hours is the drop in temp from the current 46 degrees it is outside to a friday night low of 3.

Of course everywhere is cleaned out of salt.

Biggest snow of the season heading my way this weekend. Calling for at least a foot, followed by several days of single digit highs and negative lows. In the thick of it now.

I will be sure to remind you of this again when you post up your bass pics in a few months.

You'll have earned every one you catch.
