Welcome to the dark side.

You become a full Tackle-Sith Lord once you have a reel where the aftermarket parts cost more then the reel it's self.

In a sequence of events I cannot really explain I ended up trading into a 884c *and* having a TD-Z without a rod so I did the needful.  I am really happy with the combo and cannot wait to spend some more time with it.  I got a great deal on the reel so the ZPI PG spool cost like $10-20 more then than it and that is before the grips and color parts.

I've been on the hunt for a first gen Cumara for some time now. I've had a 7'7" Heavy which I paid $100 for brand new when they were clearing them out before the red ones were released.  It's by far my favorite rod. I've tried a bunch of rods and none really matches the feel and power of that rod when you set hook on a big one buried down in the weeds.

I know rods are such a personal thing but for me the first gen Cumaras simply have not been topped at least not by any of the rods I've ever used.  I was hoping to land a lightly used one at best.  Still a bit in disbelief that I was able to snag 2 brand new 7'4 Heavy flipping sticks which is the rod I was really after most.

I also grabbed a Bantam MGL earlier this year and it pairs absolutely beautifully with the Cumara.  Only problem is I might need to get another one now.

I don't blame you. I'm only going to use one of those 7'4's. The other will be getting wrapped up and stored just in case I break the other one.  I might actually cry if I ever break my 7'7".

My wife just walked up and looked at the screen and asked, " are you selling all those?"  She's so sweet.

Our wives must be related.  Any time I get a new setup going, "Why do you need so many fishing poles?  You only need one."

I usually follow that up with I need one for every outfit. I can’t use the white ones after Labor Day. How many shoes do you have. Do you wear sandals in a snow storm or snow boots to the beach it’s like the same thing. They all have a job, and mind your own business. Lol.

Or jeez I didn’t give you a hard time when you bought a new vacuum. That one never goes over good.

You should have bought her a vacuum for Valentine's Day.

I've completely upgraded my arsenal over the past two winters.

Original lineup:
Abu Garcia Ambassaduer 500R (5.3:1) on a 5'6" Medium/Medium Ambassaduer
Abu Garcia Cardinal 562 on a 6' Medium-Light/Medium Berkley Enforcer
Plueger 640 on a 5' Ultra-Light/Fast Ugly Stick

The new lineup is pictured below
Diawa Fuego CT-XS (8.1:1) on a 7' Heavy/Fast Daiwa Aird-X - New purchase this winter
Plueger President (7.3:1) on a 6'6" Medium/Fast Diawa Aird-X - New purchase this winter
Plueger Trion-30 on a 6'6" Medium/Fast Ugly Stick - New purchase last spring
Mitchell Avocet RZ-2000 on a 6'6" Medium-Light/Fast Avocet - New purchase last spring
Pflueger President 25 on a 6'6" Ultra-Light/Fast Diawa Spinmatic - reel was a gift, rod purchased this winter

The President BC replaced the Ambassaduer

The President-25 replaced the 640

The Cardinal was merely retired

Sounds like a set up.

Here's a few of mine. SS SV103, Zillion SV TWS, and JDM 1516 Zillion. Next reel will be a Steez A TW or the EX

Added a 90mm handle and drag star from steez sv tw. 76388A17-6D32-4A4A-A087-690E88585035.thumb.jpeg.dd217126ab9c86967332f7a9f48ea042.jpeg

Maybe you can write up a mini review once you've had time with it on the water.

For stripers , catfish and buffalo stradic fk 4000 or 5000?

I've read nothing but good things about the Shimano Cumulus rods so when I saw one come available I jumped on it. It's a 6'10" MH Fast in brand new condition minus the tags.  This will be my new dedicated senko rod. I will say the thing is just stupidly light. I'd like to evenyually make it a super light weight setup (thinking a Shimano Aldebaran) but for this year I'll have to run one of my Curado E7's on it.

About as rare as a unicorn. I have the same exact rod and have had mine for probably close 4-5 years. I think I paid $250 for mine new from TW when they were closing them out.

I can tell you that they are still the lightest weight rods on the market. That 6'10 rod weighs only 3 oz. Pair it up with a 5.5 ounce Core 50 and it will weigh a whopping 8.5 ounces as a combo. What does this mean in terms of your fishing experience? Well, you won't have much fatigue and everything will be amplified even more in terms of feel.

I have tried both a Core 50 and an Alphas SV 105 and have settled on the Alphas. Mainly because I have been using this rod for jerkbaits, small poppers that only weigh a 1/4 oz or so and that Alphas casts them a bit better.

The rod does have exceptional feel so you can toss your plastics and smaller jigs on it. The only negative is the rods specs are going to be off from any MH rod you have used. I would say it is more of a true medium and the action is somewhere between Fast and Mod/fast. When you set the hook and the rod bends, it flexes quite deeply. I also find it frustrating at times to get a good hook set on with a weightless plastic or bottom contact bait. It just feels more under powered and not as "fast" in action as I prefer those apps.

If you do want to use it for smaller plastics and jigs I would say you don't want to push the weight much above 3/8 oz total. A 1/4 oz jig and trailer or a texas rig that starts with a 1/4 oz weight or less and plastic is about where you want to be.

If you are wanting something more true to a normal bottom contact rod I would see if I could find the 7'1 model. It is more powerful and has a faster action.

Nonetheless excellent score on the rod! I am sure you will enjoy it. If you find yourself tossing jerkbaits or top water poppers a lot, where you are constantly working the bait, I find the length and action absolutely ideal for both of these techniques as well.
