  1. See if there's anyone that can take you out and show you some things on that lake. https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/forum/16-southeast-bass-fishing/ When I went to NH this summer for vacation, I made a post about Lake Winnipausakee to get some tips and a member graciously offered to take me out on his boat, which I accepted. Great experience as he really knew the lake and got me on multiple fish.

  3. What are you eyeing up???
  4. My kids are excited....me not so much except I will be putting on a huge crock of chili Friday night.
  5. So you're looking for two things right? 1) A heavy combo for saltwater surf fishing that is better than a $30 Walmart Combo 2) A new spinning rod to pair up with a Sienna 2500 What's your budget for each?
  6. One of the best posts I've read about Magforce braking, video included:
  7. Keep in mind, with topwater rods, sensitivity is a non-issue most of the time so there's no need to get a mega high modulus, spacecraft grade resin, microguides the size of pinheads and all that jazz. Focus on form factor that meet your preferences, such as shorter handle lengths for walking baits (my preference).
  8. I really enjoy the Curado DC for long, full casting techniques. Daiwa SV types for lighter weight lures and skipping.
  9. I hear you. I was doing it all "wrong" too based on watching "how to set up a baitcaster" on youtube until I found several posts by @BaitFinesse and a few others that really know their Daiwas.
  10. This with 2 drams?
  11. I set the tension knob really loose, where there's clanking when you have side to side play, and if you drop a lure to the ground you'll get a ginormous birds nest. But I set the mag braking high, like 18, then keep backing it down until you're comfortable you won't get an overrun immediately after the cast. You have to thumb the spool at the end of the cast or you'll get a birds nest. This is the set up I found for most distance.
  12. My favorite is the Mepps dressed XD #3.
  13. From an email, Dick's is having a buy 5, get 5 free in-store clearance (lesser or equal value per the email).
  14. This is a very good combo for frogging too.
  15. I have a BG 1500 and several Penn Battle II's (3000, 2000, 1000). Performance wise, they're both good, well constructed. Some very minor differences, Penn's handle knobs are bigger (longer and flat) and to me more comfortable. The BG's drag knob is plastic and feels flimsy compared to the Penn's. BG feels slightly smoother, maybe due to the oversized gears (digigear system), and heavier but balances well on spinning rods just fine. The Battle II had line lay problems on their larger reels, I don't think it is a problem on the 2500. Both can be had for about $80 on Amazon or Ebay. Both have great customer service and I don't think you can go wrong with either one for the long term unless you abuse the reel.
  16. Been watching it since the pilot season when it was REAL slow to develope and the theories they were pushing was sometimes far fetched. But the stuff they’re doing now with a more scientific approach is excellent TV.
  17. I don't think it's that crazy tbh. Finding the right frog rod with heavy/MagH power with a fast/xfast and soft tip isn't easy to do (those are my preferred attributes). I'd say I still haven't found the perfect frog rod for myself yet. Also when jig fishing, a rod may be rated 1/2 to 1.5oz and then people throw on a 3/8oz jig and add a trailer and then bombing it with a total weight of 7/8oz. When throwing frogs, it's going to be a true 1/2oz lure so it's not always apples to apples comparing jig to frog fishing when considering the same rod.
  18. Nice pick up....I love my EMTF Gen1, but there are situations where I'd love to have the F6 power...if you don't like that one PM me ASAP!
  19. May 8th is a Wednesday, is that a typo? But I'm very interested in going on one of these...my wife said no to me joining FOBA as a member....this year.
  20. I'll PM people for Event 2 (fishing get together) as we get closer to spring or warm up. Cigar, Whiskey, and Fish talk is tentatively going to happen Jan 20th around 6PM. Most people have MLK off. Back up date is Jan 26th. I've only sent PM to people who indicated they were interested, but PM me if anyone else is interested.
  21. For me, longer, heavy rods strain my wrist while trying to walk/pop them. I opt for a 7' H/F Daiwa Aird-X most of the time. But some guys use super high-end $300+ 7'3-7'6 rods and it works for them.
  22. Now would be a difficult time to try and catch them since they're mostly buried in the mud. In the summer, they give their positions away because they come up for air and you can sight fish for them.
  23. Learn and use my boat electronics to help me catch more fish.
  24. My dad has been a long time fisherman, and he would actually let small/mid-size bass go and keep the big ones. I also didn't know better until recently when I started to really get into angling as well. You can teach an old dog new tricks and he now let's the big ones go.
  25. I have the 6'8 topwater, I bought it specifically because of the short handle and love it. I caught my personal best LMB at 4.92lbs on it and had no problem. I've also caught several 6-8lb snakeheads on it and had no problem either. I really enjoy the short handle, no more forearm banging.
