I'm curious as to what reel you like to use for bass fishing.

That’s @A-Jay‘s Swimbait setup. He’s caught some absolute tanks on that thing!

YouTube got the best of me this past week so I ordered up a couple of these from a japanese supplier.  $22 each shipped, ugh!

The gist of the Youtube video was that these chatterbaits can be drug through tree branches without snagging…..as much.  I’m going to test that! ;) and my wallet will cry when I snag. LOL. But if they’re as good as advertised…….maybe I’ll pick up a more sizable order in different weights.

If anyone has used these, I would love to hear your experience.

Swore I would not buy anything but bullet weights and line this year. Fell off the wagon and spent about $300 in the past two days. Started innocently with looking around the internet for some Hayabusa shooting star jigs that then snowballed out of control.

I thought I was done, bought everything on my list a couple weeks ago, but.......2 days ago I dug a crankbait out of my garage that looked like it had never been in the water, the storage box was covered with dust and a little bird poop.  I gave that lure a christening yesterday and slayed the Smallmouth and Walleye;  wow!  When I got home I thought I should buy some backup before losing it.  Rapala Glass Shad Rap, size 5.  It must be discontinued;  I searched about a half dozen sites and all showed out of stocks on most colors with reduced prices.  Finally found what I wanted at TW, but prices were a little higher.  Result was a Bait Monkey attack and I ordered 6 in size 5, and 3 more in size 7;  during the battle I also succumbed to a few more items which were absolute necessities.

I looks like you came out of the battle a little worse for the wear, but you showed him who was boss. However friends, don’t let the antics of @Tackleholic dissuade you from paying a visit to the monkey. He really is a good guy…

Same video popped up in my feed, they look very good. I was tempted to pick some up in 1/2 ounce but I couldn't justify it over the Jackhammers. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts/seeing your success on them, though. Would be interesting to see if these make their way over to the US.

Also I lied in my last post, the bait monkey tricked me again today, but I got a good deal out of it. On my way to lunch I stopped into Dick's, not generally a fan of them since they are basically a clothing store now, but I did want to see if they were running their Buy 5 Get 5 free deal and they were. Picked up a mess of Vision 110s and 110 Jrs, a couple of PopMax (blaming
@A-Jay for how much he talks it up, fingers crossed I have some success), and a couple of Provokes in the 106 and 97 sizes. All on clearance, and with the B5G5 the Vision 110s came out to 9 bucks each and Jrs were 7.50ish. Color selection left much to be desired but these'll get bit in my waters for sure. All in all retail price + tax wouldv'e been ~460, I walked out with it for 193. It's not buying out the entire Bantam market supply, but I'm happy with that.

Not to say the Dock Demon spincast reel isn't a good choice, but you may want to give a Shimano Bantam a try.

Now why didn't I think of that ?

I actually snagged that Dock Demon rig from the depths of Lake Menderchuck with a Jackhammer -

You just never know . . .

So you essentially got them for half price. It’s hard to find those things on sale.

And I thought lake Menderchuck and Jackhammer's were only good for giant small mouth.  I always thought you were trying to keep Menderchucks location a secret due to the over sized small mouth bass.  Now I know you didn't want any one else fishing your secret Dock Demon fishing hole.  What color of Jack Hammer is best for Dock Demon's? and what gear ratio Bantam do you prefer for catching them?

Yeah they ended up being about 60% off after the clearance and the additional deal. Those were the only colors they had available, but they'll work just fine. Elegy Bone was one I've had my eye on for a long time now, so it worked out nicely.

@Aaron_H That’s a great deal for the visions.  I will be stopping by there the next couple of days for some other things. Definitely looking that up!

After doing line inventory I realized I needed some 15 lb fluorocarbon for pitching plastics.

TW:  200 yards of 15 lb ArazX on sale for $20.  Added the bulk pack 2.75" TRDs which were on sale, some big TRDs, a mini Chatterbaits, and Berkley's Dark Sleeper knock offs which were over 50% off.  All told a little over $50 to hit free shipping.  And I even had a gift card.....

Christmas Monkey delivered....

20241223_200359.jpg.2b01d7adde3c92ea34d71e3ef871e611.jpg

The BOTTOMUP baits came in 5 packs. Both great free rig baits.

I also picked up a couple of Ryugi bait bags. These are amazing for what they are. Also not pictured are about 20 jigs from Beast Coast.

More to come.  :santa-107:

Got the Ben and Griff’s Xmas bento from Hookup tackle. Quite a haul for $200. Retail price for all of the below is around $640! The most useful baits for me are the hard baits and jigs. I’m not sure if the swimbaits and glide baits will be used much, if at all. The raid plastic baits are interesting but at retail of I think $9.99 a package, I don’t think I’d repurchase. The whip worms look like a cross between a senko and a finesse worm.

Has anyone used these swimbaits, glide baits and whip worms and had success?

Got the same box. I see I am not the only one that didn't get the Gizard Shad LV 500. Looked like an awesome color.

On the swimbaits....The One Up Shad is a pretty good bait. I have had good luck with it. The others I have not tried but the Osakana Swimmer is supposed to be a great bait. It doesn't look like it would have much action. We will see.

I have not used the Whip Worms but they look good.  I have used the Battle Hog and the Buggy Craw. I have caught fish on both.

The Egu Dama is a great finesse jig. I've caught several good size fish on it.

Looking forward to using this stuff but it's going to take a while.

I forgot about that gizzard shad lv500. I wanted that too. Mine is a French pearl sakura. I don’t throw lipless much and none that color. Maybe it will be good in muddy water.

Thanks for the comments on the swimbaits and finesse jigs. Out of all the things in the box, I am betting I will catch more fish on the finesse jigs than anything else. They look like they are high quality.

Yall realize how “hard” it is to spend $400 at tackle warehouse WITHOUT any big ticket items? Got $400 for Christmas and placed an order today. Bought a new rod, reel and other stuff. Once the rod/reel were in my basket, due to my military discount, I still had a little over $100 to spend. Didn’t need/want any big ticket items. Grabbed some line, hard baits, soft baits, and a pair of pliers. When you’re buying $5-10 lures, it gets very daunting to keep track! I think all in all, I got a half dozen blade baits, a few sv-3 spinnerbaits, half a dozen or so crank baits (lipless and FS), and some other stuff. I’m not complaining, but I quickly go into analysis paralysis. Will post pics when it shows up. Showed arrival on 1/6, but just got a notification that the order is being prepared for shipment…

Figured this would be the best place to take a minute and share my thoughts and prayers for the Family Budget Fisherman. Not sure I'd consider him the 'latest' bait monkey victim at this point, but if you take the time to look through some of his first videos, rod collection and aspirations when he started his channel and then compare those with what we have today you will find a man that should remind us all of how easy it is for the bait monkey to turn Walter White into Heisenberg. Stay strong my friends.

My local dick’s sporting goods had some megabass vision 110s in the buy 5 get 5 free deal. Only color they had was northern secret though.

There were also some rigged magdrafts included but none of the popular Shad colors.
