Junk Fisherman Posted October 12, 2024 Posted October 12, 2024 My Daiwa Procyon went south on me this summer (bummer!) so I had a hole in my spinning reel arsenal. American Fishing Legacy was blowing out the original Shimano Vanfords since a newer version was released this year. That's my favorite time to swoop in and get a great reel at a big discount!  Shimano Vanford 3000 $181 with free shipping and no taxes. Plus I used $14 in customer loyalty points so the price was $167. That's a tidy bit of shopping IMO! 5 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted October 18, 2024 Super User Posted October 18, 2024 My wife is leaving later today on her girls trip. I could not have gotten these at a better time. Not shown is one swim jig. 7 Quote
KP Duty Posted October 18, 2024 Posted October 18, 2024 Picked up two 13 fishing Envy Black 3 crankbait rods and a couple ebay finds. Rods are 7'4" MH rated 1/4-1.5oz. Weighed 132g on my new scale. Stole them @ $109/each. 13 totally copied the BLX limber line on these with 5A cork and similar blanks.  *Edit- I took a pic of the '46T' logo because I believe it was meant for the standard Envy 3. The crankbait series is supposed to be a 30T Toray T glass blank.         BDS4's in Tenn Shad and skeet MR in red river craw.  10 Quote
Super User Koz Posted October 19, 2024 Super User Posted October 19, 2024 Well, I couldn't fish the Bassmaster Caddo Lake event this week because as usual, work got in the way. The smart thing to do would have been to just bank the money I would have spent. Â I'm not that smart. Â The only spinning gear I have is a ML drop shot rig, so I purchased a Cashion ICON FFS MF spinning rod and a 2500 Daiwa Procyon AL LT reel. I also added some Giant TRD worms, 5" Damiki Armor Shad, and I bunch of jig heads because I go through them like crazy. And I added another free TW t-shirt and sticker to my collection because, hey, they're free. Â I've got a big trip coming up in the next few weeks but I'm not sure if it's going to be Caddo/Lake Fork/Toledo Bend/Sam Rayburn or hitting a trail of Florida lakes. I'm playing it by ear. A lot will depend upon the weather forecast and if the Florida lakes are in decent shape (and ramps open) after the hurricanes. Â I really wanted to add OH Ivie if I headed to Texas, but it's too far out of the way from the other lakes. Florida would be the easier trip because I could be fishing in 5 hours whereas it will take a full day of driving just to get to the first stop in Texas. Â 3 Quote

Pat Brown Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 Got some Spro frogs with the 20% off tackle warehouse sale. Got way more than these 4 - but this is the idea 😎   Got some pop 70 to try - more pop 60s and some bronzeye 65 and jr to try. Got mostly transparent colors because that's a big hole in my frog box but I really liked the Amazon color in the pop 70 so I got that to try.  The frog bite has been insane this week so hopefully catch something this weekend with my new toys! 9 Quote

I'm not that much of a sucker! I fish a lot of clear water so I'm interested to see how they perform.  Also slightly different profile And action can be a pretty big deal around here And they definitely do their own kind of thing just like all products on the market or whatever.  Etc etc  The Amazon color is pretty nuts actually. It's like yellow with the big red stripe and a bunch of black stuff. Definitely like a dirty water reaction bait kind of color. I like it! Definitely don't have anything quite like it in my arsenal and it's the '70 size so it's a huge profile which is also neat!  But I appreciate your criticism 😂😂😂😉😉😉   2 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted October 25, 2024 Super User Posted October 25, 2024 I know you're smarter the average bear on this sort of thing. I know people who buy frogs because of what they look like on the outside of the packaging. "That is a wild color, I'm buying that one." Then I ask them "what side of the frog does the bass see again?" (awkward pause as the wheels start to turn)  Its pure marketing and a lot of people get sucked into it. 1 1 Quote

Unlesssss you're fishing gin clear water and it's dead calm out. Sometimes a bass with trail a frog and closely inspect it before committing to it. And if they're swimming alongside it, they can see the markings/paint scheme on the side of the frog. Not to mention some frogs sit butt-down in the water.  It is nuts how many colors the Bronzeye come in, though. Over 50! SPRO is definitely trying to catch the fishermen as well, that's for sure. 2 Quote

Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted October 28, 2024 Super User Posted October 28, 2024 New spinning setup..... Stradic 3000XG on a Levante Shakeyhead and I managed to score some D Braid in 15lb to wrap up the combo.  As always, Digitaka is amazing.   Hopefully I don't like the D Braid too much since it's no longer made.  I've read bad reviews about the stuff that replaced it.   12 Quote
