Had a couple passengers on the boat today, I think they really enjoyed their ride along.

  • After a couple of years of being used to make the new movie "TOP GUN-2" this F-18 E  has just arrived @ our facility in Jacksonville Fl. for rework, fresh paint and being returned to the active fleet.

I didn't post this yesterday because I had already posted daily.

Driving to my sister's house for Christmas dinner yesterday, the out of town route, came across a bald eagle eating his prey on the road shoulder - he didn't spook far away, still guarding his meal.

Bald eagles winter here, especially along our creeks, sometimes see them when bicycling the greenways, and especially trout fish with them on our cold tailwater.

Our female pug Lola has an ear that’s always sticking up in a different way when she wakes up. We call it her ‘bed head’.

Mrs. 12poundbass, myself, and 6poundbass headed out to Hobby Lobby looking for @A-Jay‘s infamous rubber bands. We looked all over the place and stumbled upon this...

6poundbass and I got a kick out of it! We checked two stores, no rubber bands the right size.

Spent the better part of today building some custom bookshelves in our living room. All that’s left to do is the crown moulding on top, build and install the doors on the front of the bottom cabinets and paint all the trim. Lots of room for more books now. As the husband of a librarian, I racked up quite a few brownie points today ?.

Texas should be 5 states, because it's five different geographic regions.

This used to be the capital of West Texas - Vinegarone (vinega-roohn - rhymes with Lorna Doone) - it's the only town in Texas that has a green road sign that reads "Population 0

Everything in the west Texas scrub bites, stings, or spits poison at you - plants and animals, both.

An anxious two-mile hike from this mesa finds a striking bluff with springs the size of volkswagens, and the Devils River

Fish live here, but they're awful spooky from the bank or wading

and the water so clear, the next step may be over your head

the best way to catch them is float

These photos were taken 15 years ago, when the state leased access and campsites on this ranch at Vinegarone.  It was a mecca - you could drive 5 hours and run across friends you hadn't fished with in 5 years.

Now, the only way to get here is to float in on a 2-day safari with registered float guides - but triple-digit bass numbers are the norm on that float.

Got the sled out for the first run of the year today. There’s not near enough snow for the trails to be officially open yet, but enough for us to go for a quick run down the private trail behind our house. I’d still rather be in the boat, but it’s better than sitting in the house all winter.
