What im really asking is how much should i spend on a rod that is paired with a $420 reel? I have the 2020 metanium and i have it paired with a 6th sense sensory rod ($250). I was wondering if it would be better if i upgraded to a $350 or $450 rod. I only use one setup for everything. If i should upgrade, please let me know some good options i was leaning towards the GLX. Thanks in advance.

You should take your money and buy a few different combos.

What's the power/action of that rod?

 

A Medium-Heavy/Fast is the 'Swiss army knife' of rods - does a lot of things...some of them well, others adequately.

More rigs gives you more options...even when I was broke and could only get 'cheap' rigs, I still had three to cover different techniques.

Spend whatever amount you feel is best for your new fishing rod. Just remember that the fish do not care how much your tackle is worth they care how you present the lure.

I agree with @jbsoonerfan 100%. I'd get a couple decent combos to help cover more techniques. If your willing to drop $450 on just a rod you could easily get 2 combos + a decent rod for that money if you shop around.

Not me...Buy the best and build your collection over time. To start with I would recommend

 a G. Loomis GLX 844C  for EVERYTHING!

I will double down on this one with one add in....  I would look at the 843C GLX as well and see what fits the baits you are using. 

For sure, buy once cry once.  If you settle for something you don't want, odds are your going to buy what you want in the end anyway. 

 

If your happy with the way the rod performs I dont see why you would want to replace it.  Unless you dont like the way it balances or you dislike the reel seat or grip.  

First nice rod I bought was an 844 blank.  Wish you could still get them as blanks.  Great stick.

go with NRX or Conquest.

One setup for frogs, lipless, medium cranks, swimbaits and Texas rigs? Kind of like buying the nicest framing nailer on the market and trying to do trim work with it. 

 

I agree with the buy once, cry once, but I would think one would not be as effective only using one rod (no matter if it was the best rod ever made). Re-tying would be a real pain if you switched techniques often. But, if you don't plan to switch often, I suppose it could work. It just wouldn't be my plan of action.

Not familiar with your current rod but paying more money then the reel cost tells me your budget is higher then knowledge of bass.

What are your primary lures? What line do you use?

I'd completely agree with you!! I can't imagine doing all my fishing with one one rod/reel setup!! Also I just watched John Cox finish 3rd in last weekends Elite Series tournament using $100 Abu Garcia Veritas rods!! Not to mention Steve Kennedy finishing 2nd using Shimano reels that are at least 10 years old!! ?

If you have to choose between one $800 combo or 4 $200 and you will never be able to buy anymore tackle ever the 4 $200 ones win EVERYTIME.

I'll admit I think it's rather silly as well. 

 

But we have a new poster here looking for advice. Who knows if they're new to the sport? How they spend their money is up to them. They were very polite in their post. No need to scare people away or make them feel reluctant to post again.

 

Others have given him some good advice without being harsh. I just don't think that was warranted here, that's all.

Everything ok there man? You've really been chewing on the new guys lately.

I fished a SV Tatula on an Ethos Micro I paid $27 for a majority of 2019 and caught a lot of fish with it. Price doesn't matter, function is what I'm after.

Whatever your budget and wife will allow.

I would fish on. Sounds like you've got a great outfit there.

I spend quite a bit more on rods than reels.  I have a couple $4-$500 rods and have never spent much over $200 over for a reel.  

 

In terms of what rod, an 843 GLX is an extremely versatile rod.  I'd also consider those new Megabass rods that are in the $500 range.
