I drove my truck a long ways today, it’s amazing how much better the MPG is without my boat haha. Went from 12-13 to 18-19.

I rarely drive it without a boat behind it

well i can see how that woud make a difference.

  • One reason I run a 16' Alweld with a 40 hp Tahotsu.   Easy to tow & I can fish 2-3 days on 6 gallons.

  • Just a short time ago...those were the days!

  • The surplus of money I had from quitting my pack-a-day smoking habit last year [that went towards my fishing habit] now ends up in my gas tank... which is kind of sad. It was a good run.

Already has for me. Trips are much closer to the house to the lakes that aren't nearly as good and trips are much less frequent. Not sure how much longer I can keep the Stratos at this rate either.

It's killing us as a single income family.

Definitely can't argue this. I haven't gone to chase my river smallies yet this year and it's killing me. The $60 for gas there and back will be $80 or higher this year.

My back is affecting my fishing more than gas prices . I had to quit yesterday . First time I had to do that because of back pain . .

You’re not alone Pal!

Mike

I've already canceled one trip. I'll be fishing close to home this year.

I'm old enough that I'm not required to carry a fishing license and have a Medicare card .

144 for  the wife and I.

Gas prices will not affect me. I live 8 minutes from the ramp and I can see the areas I fish from the ramp for the most part.  I also fish an aluminum boat.

Meanwhile in Southwest Louisiana!

That's pretty good mileage.  I might be considering a Ranger when the time comes to replace my current F-150.  I have to imagine that the mileage drops a fair amount when towing a boat though.  If you don't mind me asking how big is the fuel tank on the Ranger?

I came out of a F150 and into the Ranger. It has a 18gal tank. I couldn't tell you what the mileage would be towing because I haven't towed anything with it yet. But it can tow about 7500 pounds and I'm quite sure the mileage would suffer towing that much.

Excellent, thanks.  I currently have an F-150 and I'm considering a down grade.  My boat doesn't weigh nearly that much.  Its about 3500 pounds fully loaded with the trailer.

I just moved and its a little tight in the garage with my F-150 so a Ranger would save me some reasonable space in there.  I used to have a Ranger about 15 years ago right out of college.

Well, as it pertains to this thread, getting into a newer vehicle with great mileage is certainly a way to curve these higher gas prices. In my case, I went with the Ranger because of fishing, I simply got tired of living at the pump. I do a ton of traveling to fish, so along with work and general use, it just made sense to get into something a bit more versatile. And the Ranger is the best of both worlds, in my opinion, great on gas without sacrificing big truck performance.

My 2020 Explorer with the standard EcoBoost 4 gets 27-28 mpg on the highway and it tows my RT178 like it's not even back there.

My last trip to Dale Hollow last month was 700 miles each way. $550 in gas. Since were in Amish country things are gonna change
