I fish the Zoom on a c-rig . Cotton candy and GP are the only colors I use. 

Back in the day I really liked the Flip Tail brand. The body was wider and thicker than the Zoom or any of the copies.

Forty years ago I drew an angler in an Okeechobee tournament that had been written up in a few magazines.  I don't remember his name, but he claimed to have caught a hundred bass over ten pounds on artificials.   When he fished with me all he used were lizards.

Maybe it was how I was fishing with them, but I never got that many bites on lizards. I may have to dig them out and try them again.

Lizards are not numbers baits, they are quality bass baits.  They represent larger bass food. I can't remember when I caught a dink bass on a 6" lizard.  Perhaps that's a Florida thing?  Others will give their opinions.

I have some zoom lizzards that were included in an estate sale of fishing items i bought. Untill i read this article i was not interested in them but now i went and opened a pack and first thing i noticed is they smell highly of plastic.

My PB and 3 of my top 5 were caught on a Zoom lizard.  Nuff said.

I fished tournaments for a couple of years in the 1980's .A cousin and I won 15,000 dollars in1986 and 1987. Every dollar came on a Texas rigged lizards. The BPS Squirmin Liz to be exact.

I decided that if I can make it happen, 23 is the year of the lizard for me. I caught a Guadalupe Bass on an 8" berkley power lizard earlier this year, pumpkin chartreuse/C-rig. I've hooked into a few LM with that but had them all get loose so far, just need to get better at keeping them pinned. Bass pro makes a floating lizard that looks really nice in the water but it hasn't done anything for me yet. I have some zoom 6" lizards in a few red colors, plus black and chartreuse. But the 8" lizards are getting thrown right now.

Can't wait to get off this trip and get back to my lake

Lizard is a staple soft plastic for me. They work everywhere rigged every way.

 

I haven't fished anything bigger than 6" so I'm going to have to try some of these big lizards now

 

I bought some deep creek lures slick tail lizards. They look cool but haven't done well for me. I have caught fish on them, but they didn't work as good as I had expected

I have never caught a bass over 5 pounds on one, but the average size fish tends to be generally bigger. I find that bass either are all over them or don’t bite them at all.

I would say I’ve done fair with them overall. I have a point with eel grass that If swim a lizard by, I will usually get a fish or two on it. This is in low light conditions with June bug .

If I throw one on a bed, it was usually get bit eventually, if not the first cast…

I suspect I'm a bit of an outlier here.  I would rather fish for a week to catch a big bass than catch a boat load of small fish. I often fish all day for a few bites.  If I catch one nice fish, I'm happy.

I use lizards a lot as a jig trailer.  Just tear the head off to make them more compact.  I also fish them T-rigged.  I pretty much stick to 6" Zoom lizards in Junebug.  

 

I find they work great in stained water and when the fish are more active.  I'll fish them year-round.  On the scale of subtle to loud, they're pretty much at the top of the soft plastic scale, so they get used quite a bit.

When you do a lizard on a jig, do you find it gets more bites and hotter water or colder water or it doesn't matter?

Definitely more in hotter water.  But that might just be because I'm throwing them more after the water warms up.  In colder water, I tend to choose more subtle presentations with smaller profiles, if for no other reason than habit.  I'm kind of impatient with lure selection, so I tend to get an idea, and if it doesn't work, I move on to something drastically different.  I don't do a lot of fine-tuning baits.  So lets say the jig with the lizard trailer isn't working.  My next choice will probably be a sqaurebill or spinnerbait.  And if I work my way back around, I might go with Texas rig or Ned rig instead of a jig.  

 

Also, the waters I fish don't have a lot of big bass in them, tend to be pretty stained, and have a lot of fishing pressure.  So I think the smaller profile (girth), increased action, and different look from what most anglers are throwing works to my advantage.  Or maybe I've just convinced myself of that and refuse to think otherwise.  

The main reason I made this post was to get an idea about what others are using. I haven't used a plastic lizard  for quite a while.                             I was going through some of my older stuff and found three bags of Zoom lizards. I had good luck with these years ago.                               I've got two bags of 6" and one of 4". I'm giving them a shot again this season. It's like finding a brand new bait.

Grande Bass Gila Monster. Made out of senko-like material, 8.75" long. It's a giant senko-lizard. Haven't fished it much, but it sure is a big meal. 

 

 

YUM Zellamander.  Gone but not forgotten. The baby Brush Hog filled the void.
