My location (Indianapolis) is in the direct path of the total eclipse next Mon. Hotel rooms are sold out here and we're being advised of major traffic issues. Any one else getting excited about it? Doesn't really move my needle. Might see if it has any impact on fishing. Totality here is just over four min.

Eclipses have been occurring on Earth since long before humans walked the planet.

Throughout time, humans have had different interpretations of and reactions to these striking celestial events.  IMO, destructive weather events get my attention because they can actually change lives.

These things are mostly just over publicized made events designed to inspire chatter. 

Sort of like March Madness.

They come and they go, and everything pretty much stays the same.

But just to be safe, I always wear these . . .

The one we went through a few years ago was really cool but all it did is get darker for a few minutes and then light again.  To me it is worth experiencing. Watching the sun go dark and seeing a black moon in the middle of it was cool.   We are on the path of this one too and I'll watch it again. 

We had a total eclipse here in 2017.   I thought it was incredible.  It’s amazing that the moon fits perfectly over the sun.   It’s even more amazing that they can predict it years in advance.   There’s no room for error.  The traffic was a nightmare here.   I went to the store about a hour before and almost didn’t make it back in time.  There’s a Boy Scout reservation down the road that had 5000 people there to see it.   I would encourage anyone who has never seen a total eclipse to take this opportunity to see one of you can.

I live about 100 miles from the path of totality in Indiana. My wife and I are going to take the drive to a more rural part of the state which shouldn’t be too busy. Being retired, we aren’t doing much so it’s something to do. It’s not likely I’ll be around to see another one.

We live in Indy and like @The Bassman said, people and local businesses are hyping it up. My work is giving us 2 hours off and glasses to view it. Some schools are closed. Others have the day set up around the whole thing.  Around the city, they are selling tickets at optimum viewing sites.  It will be cool to see. 

I hope I can take the day off to see how the fish bite during an eclipse. Maybe it’ll be as good as Y2K was.

Talk about over hyped and over rated.  Travelling from out of state for days on end to see something like this that lasts a few minutes...and may not be visible because of cloud cover?  If I lived in the path of it and had an opportunity to view it, then I would.  But driving for hours and getting a hotel room?  Not a chance.

 

I just learned there's a whole lot of people out there with too much time and money on their hands.

I've heard the same said about bass fishing.  Glitter boats, a dozen rods and big trucks.  Driving for hours to get to lake.  I've just learned a whole bunch of middle-aged anglers out there with too much money and time on their hands.

 

Or maybe, just maybe, accept that not everyone has the same interests as you, and that we can be a bit more accepting of each other.  Why be so judgmental? Are they harming you?  Why seek divisions and condemn, when there is far more that unites us than divides us.

Heard on the radio this morning that the Indiana governor declared a state of emergency ahead of the impending masses of people. With that said I'm heading down to southern IL with youngest adult child to view. We're making a weekend out of it, camping etc. Hoping Illinois has their poop together with logistics as they did this in 2017. We'll see how it goes...lol

I've seen one.  I don't think that this will be so different as to be worth driving 100 miles to see it.  Instead I think I'll sneak out of work and onto the boat to see if the bass are interested enough to look up.  Weird natural phenomenom sometimes affects animals.  Let's see if they want a boat ride.  

I remember the eclipse of 1979 - was in college and our astronomy class (Bemidji State University) tripped up to Winnipeg, OT to watch it with filtered 8" Celestron telescopes...I was one of the drivers for that.

 

US/Canada border only needed driver's licenses and a verbal declaration at that time.

We were in the “totality “ area for the last one in 2017, it was pretty crazy. Had a bunch of buddies fishing during it and they were biting , even on an ultra bright summer day 

I got to see the one in 2017. This time they are predicting rain and clouds for the day. I don't even have any eclipse glasses now for this one.

@Log Catcher, I have some extra ones for ya 😂 . My mom gave me several pairs……

We’re in total path of it or what ever also. Road billboards have been warning of sever traffic Monday to expect extreme delays or something of the sorts. We’re working hall day Monday boss said get all we can done till 11 and then get our arses back to base. It’s a Monday so my route will be down town Rochester driving around with millions in cash. 
 

it doesn’t get me going really my daughter wants to watch it from back my truck so I’ll probably do the 4 minutes of watching for her then I going fishing since out of work early 

@TnRiver46 Thank you for the offer. I'm not driving to Knoxville to get them. Since they still think it will be cloudy with some rain I probably won't need them anyway.

I remember 2017 but Virginia isn't going to see a total eclipse until 2052......I won't need glasses 🤓

I am usually not apathetic or indifferent to natural phenomena, so I totally get the excitement over it. But for some reason this one really just isn’t grabbing me. And I’m already aggravated over it because the signs on the interstate tell me to “expect delays, solar eclipse Monday”.

And that makes for some really good fishing too

My house in maine is in the path of totality. I thought about burning a few Vaca days to go up but realized I didn't care enough. However if this had been in July or August when I normally take my trips north I probably would have planned my trip to be up there for it.
