Black, no sugar and no cream!

I have an electric percolator from the '60s.  To this day it makes the best coffee, period.

I'm too cheap to pay $4+ for a cup of black coffee at Starbucks, and Dunkin' Donuts is hot brown water so I use a Keurig most of the time.  Luckily I found San Fransisco FOG CHASER.  It's a good strong coffee that averages 55 cents a cup.

And YES, black is the only way to drink coffee.

  • Well, I live in Washington, so I suppose I'm a coffee snob. LOL   But...ya, I kinda am.    Starbucks is the McDonald's of coffee.  It's ok, but not great.  Most restaurants don't make coffee

I forgot about Red Leaf Coffee out of Kelso Washington.  Organic and roasted next door to the retail outlet.  They will open the whole bean bag and grind it for you.  Also very good roasts.

I love my morning 18oz of Folgers - weak, with a bit of sweet-n-low, and a lot of hazelnut creamer!

  • Super User

30 - 60 ounces of Folgers Columbian everyday. I do add a little real sugar.

I don't drink anywhere near the Joe I used to.

Retirement does that.

But when I do, it's usually for effect and happens late afternoon.

Also has to be a dark roast.

I go over pour, so 1 cup at a time.

I switch back & forth between these two.

I'll second the Freedom Fuel. It was my daily brew before I found the SM Direct Action.

The nectar of the gods. Espresso, Cappuccino, Latte, Cadillac or black that a spoon would stand up in it, I definitely like to enjoy a good cup of coffee. As I type this I’m enjoying a cup of Peet’s Holiday blend, that’s similar to their Peaberry blend which is really good when it’s available.

But I gotta admit it’s always nice to visit the state where it’s grown and have cup at the source…

Cheap, bitter, strong. I usually get JFG, it’s made in East TN and there used to be an iconic sign right near my house just across the TN river from downtown Knoxville. The land changed hands and the sign had to go, but luckily they put it up elsewhere since it is a historical landmark

I like JFG too but we don’t have it here in AR. Usually drink Folgers black silk now, always black.

Did the Shriner’s sell the temple? What’s going in its place?

  • Super User

I went through a coffee craze, got a press, percolator, k-cup, even an expresso machine.
Now I just brew a pot and I like it black and strong.

Only recently got to looking beyond instant coffee. I’m still dialing my tastes. I like drip filter coffee, especially coffee cut with chicory. I’m not diametrically opposed to milk and sugar; I like black coffee, but there’s also something nice about milky coffee that’s lightly sweetened. I enjoy espresso-based drinks (flat whites, lattes, macchiatos, etc.), but can’t bring myself to buy an espresso machine to make that stuff myself.

I have an aeropress and coffee grinder on my Christmas list. I’ll be playing around with different beans

I’m not sure, haven’t rolled by in a bit because the bridge has been closed for months. I’m guessing apartments

Wow, I didn’t think the Shriner’s would ever sell. That temple has been there as long as I can remember.

A chain of convenience store/gas stations in my area sells their own brand of coffee, and it’s by far my favorite. Stewart’s Shops, for anybody who is in the upstate NY area. I drink more coffee than I should. It’s my comfort drink. If I’m home there will always be a pot of coffee on, and if I’m out and about, I’ll always have a cup by my side. Always black, nothing ever in it. Coffee is one of those things that is perfect in its most basic state.

The Boss just came home with a bag of LavAzza coffee that I never heard of before.

Why?

”Because it has an Italian name so I thought you may like it”

Gotta Love that girl!

Its interesting that the two beverages I hated the most when I was younger (coffee and beer) are two of the most enjoyed now as a adult.

I tried both when I was 13 and thought "this is bad.  How can anyone drink this?"

Things change.  My palate certainly did.

I am a complete coffee snob.  Its hard to beat a black cup of Stumptown organic Guatemalan through a french press.  That is taste on a whole other level.  Once in awhile I might add a shot of knob creek to it.

Aeropress is fun. I don't use it often, but it makes a VERY smooth cup if done correctly. If you want to really go down a rabbit hole, look at the aeropress competitions online and all the different very specific recipes people use. I did prefer the upside down method to the normal one, and also did think it mattered to get the water temp just right for the best flavor. You can see why I don't do it much, it's like a science project. But very tasty.

I’m not a coffee snob in the fact that I don’t give a ratsass how you enjoy your cup.

I like mine fine as a pour over, strong, black, hot, and about 16oz.

Peets is my regular brew.   Major Dickerson. Note-  never order it as major Dicks w cute female baristas.   They will snicker.

I tried at the age of 3, Schlitz was my favorite.

This is hard core. My buddy Dave went rafting with us on the Deschutes River.  Well after dark he wanted cup of coffee badly.  He filled a pop can with river water and two scoops of coffee and set the can in coals of the fire.  After several minutes he took the can and a cup and placed the end of his shirt over the cup and used it as a filter. Saved dumped the brew filtering it with the shirt and enjoyed his coffee.  We laughed our butts off. That’s hard core.

That is hard core.  That reminds me of two guys who were in my bass club.  Twins.  Between the two, they would drink 4 pots of coffee per day, minimum.  They would fish tournaments together, and bring a camp stove on the boat to brew coffee throughout the day.

They had wicked dropshot presentations!

Reminds me of winter camping. We had a perk-pot that you'd set in the fire to make coffee. One time we filled it a little too much so the grounds were sitting in the water. By the time it started perking, the coffee was done, and we let it perk for another 1/2 hour. That coffee was strong enough to knock over a bull elephant, but it was hot and we were cold.....
