Tough recovery process, but I like to hear she plans on fishing next Spring. Is she right handed? If so, she at least has her dominant arm to help her get along until the left heals..

Wow man that's a tough deal, glad the surgery was successful. Hope she remembers to take the right time to heal up and rehabilitate,  patience and persistence will pay off on the recovery end.

Unfortunately, my Mother is experiencing some complications from this event and surgery.  One of the broken bones is calcified into a spur and it is preventing her from completely straightening out her left arm.

She was given two options:

Radiation or surgery.  She has chosen radiation.  They are going to target the bone spur starting next Friday.

Late seeing this thread. Having a mom and dad who fishes together is very special and hope see recovers fully.

Not sure if I understand target radiation as a method to remove bone spurs? The spur could easily be removed arthroscopic with little recovery issues.

🙏for her quick recovery.

@gim At least the spur is able to be fixed.

Tom I'm honestly not sure why she chose the radiation route over surgery.

I'll be seeing both of them next week so the subject will likely come up.

Hopefully it will work out ok.

Late to the thread, but prayed for your mom.

My mom fell and broke her arm when she was 82, and it only took 6 weeks or so to heal…

Don’t know how I missed this.  Prayers for the best and quick healing.

So apparently arthroscopic surgery is not an option because of the bolts and plate they installed in her broken arm.  They cannot get at the calcium deposit/bone spur because of that.  Surgery would require messing around with the plate and screws, which is why she selected radiation as the first option.

Thanks for the bump.

She is in good spirits, getting radiation treatment, and still taking physical therapy.

She is hosting 22 people for Thanksgiving so she is going to have her hands full making an enormous meal.

So sorry I'm late to this one bud ( @gim ), sure hope your mom makes a full recovery.

Not gonna hijack this thread but I understand about ailing parents. I got 2 on my hands that need attention.

Good luck my friend.

I'm glad that your mom is feeling better.  22 people, wow.

Glad to hear your mom is doing better. And hoping you all have a good holiday.

Late to the topic but thinking about you and your mother Gim. Hope things go well with treatment.

After reading she’s hosting 22 people I’m guessing your mom is a pretty tough cookie. I sincerely hope she’s doing well and continues to do so.

Haha, yeah, I'm guessing that hosting Thanksgiving for that many people is a walk in the park compared to having two people pull on your broken arm from each direction to get your elbow socket back in place.
