Holiday Weekend Fishing

So, how many of you are brave enough to hit the lakes this weekend with all of the pleasure boats - and rental pleasure boats - that will be out on the lakes?

I may head out and fish the north part of Tobosofkee on Saturday morning. It's shallow and essentially a bunch of small finger like channels so that keeps the pleasure craft away. But that also means the water will be hot and most of the bass will have moved to deeper waters in the main lake.

All of the lakes around here are very narrow, so fishing deeper, main lake waters in the is tough because of all of the pleasure boaters flying by and the constant wakes that rock my kayak around. It's probably not much fun in a bass boat, either.

But I also thought about fishing one of the many Georgia Public Fishing Areas because they are limited to idle speed or electric motors. Ocmulgee PFA is highly pressured, but features some big bass. That would be the perfect situation for me to learn to be patient and fish a drop shot or shaky head.

I also thought about heading to try out Paradise PFA. They have a ton of lakes out there. But it's a 90 minute drive and with a heat index approaching 110 I was only planning to fish in the morning. I'd love to spend the day there in the fall and hop from lake to lake.

Then again, maybe I'll just stay home in the air conditioning.

Staying at Lake Arrowhead in Waleska Ga. Only saw one boat this morning, and no jet skis allowed. A true old fart lake, I love it here! Just chilling all week!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I will occasionally go pond hopping up on the reservation during holiday weekends, but I have too strong of a sense of self preservation to venture anywhere that involves paved roads and doesn’t require a special permit.

I can’t wait for football to start - that’s when the number of wake boats drops off dramatically.

I’ll be watching the fireworks off the Big O, hopefully the big O of a giant’s mouth!

It’s too busy.

It’s too hot.

It’s too dangerous.

And finally, I’m too lazy.

I’m sitting this holiday out as usual.😉😂

I went out to the lake for a while today and looked at some naked folks that should not have been naked. Cottage cheese, flaps , questionable moles and hairy backs were all I could concentrate on. And those were the women. A lot of the dudes should have been wearing bras. Big voluptuous man boobs, I feel dirty just typing this. Anyway, I left and went to the grocery store and spent 120$ on steaks and I’m about to grill these puppies up while I sip on a cold one. Happy 4th everyone!

I spent the day at work soaking up 10hrs of double time and a half. I'll hit the water late tomorrow night after the hoards are gone.

I woke up at 5 this morning, stretched, let the dog out, and went back to bed.

We'll see what tomorrow brings.

We all need a day like that now and again.

I went yesterday morning for about 4.5 hours. Pretty decent fishing with a cloud deck for a couple hours. Once that disappeared and the sun came out, the bite died. Then the pontoons and jet skis came. Easy decision to quit given that the fishing also went down hill quickly.

That being said, if it was raining or at least cloudy, I might have gone this morning again too. It wasn't though, it was sunny and warm. So I stayed home.

Most of my small local lakes are no wake and never see pleasure boats. We have bigger lakes dominated by pleasure craft. But no one really fishes those.

I hooked the boat up. The water at the lake close to the house has that pea green tinge from field run off. But the grass has burned off some ( drove by there and looked today) I’ll probably give it a shot in the morning for a couple hours and see if I can get some on topwater. But I won’t be out past 9 probably lol

4th of July out in the glades, the sky lit up, the sun went down, and then boom!

I went out Friday for about 6 hours. I was on a 50-60 acre lake that was electric motor only. The heat, humidity, and pop up rain showers drove off most of the other boaters. I had the lake pretty much to myself after 10 a.m. or so.

On the 4th I fished for 5 hours on couple of ponds that are next to each other. Again the heat and humidity was on my side and I had both ponds all to myself.

I don't have the stones to kayak fish at night with big gators around. Nope.

Even a bass boat would be scary. I've seen gators climb.

I didn't hit the lake today, either, I got up at, opened the garage, and got a good sample of the 100% humidity and stifling air. I backed my Bronco out of the garage to turn around and hook up my trailer and then I just sat there for a few minutes thinking, "Do I really want to do this today with the heat, humidity, and what will probably be early morning boat traffic on main lake?"

I parked it and went inside. Now I'm doing some map study and research on Clark's Hill Lake before I head down there on Friday and then later at the end of the month.

You probably did the right thing. I can only imagine a main lake on a holiday weekend, ablaze with heat, bodies, and speeding boats.

There was a ton of gators out there! 🐊

Would have loved to have gone fishing but the crowds, the traffic and mainly the heat kept me at home, Then we got hit with the storms

My father was an electrician for DuPont. He loved when stuff broke in the middle of the night, because he was always on call, it was time an a half, double time on holidays, triple time on X-mas, New Year Day, and a minimum of 6 hrs. Even if it just resetting circuit breakers!😄🎉😄. Gotta love the Unions!

Was out fishing last night. Caught fireworks from the lake. More than worthwhile but the fishing was nothing to write home about. Just a few small fish and I had to use a spinning rod to catch em

@Kayak Koz Juliette, Dodge County PFA, High Falls, and Ocmulgee PFA never has pleasure boats or jet skis. As hot as it is I'm only dancing in the dark right now.

I've caught a good many bass in the duck ponds(Tobesofkee finger lakes) but never anything big. I don't fish Tobesofkee in the Summer anymore.

Thats cray-cray . No rules in fishing. Well, some.

I've fished Dodge, High Falls, and Ocmulgee. But each of those are at least an hour away. Sometimes I just prefer to fish close to home. I travel enough to fish. Tobo is about 30 minutes. Flat Creek PFA is 20 minutes but it's junk.

I've also fished Varner, Big Lazer Creek, Hugh Gillis, and Marben. I keep waiting for Lake Margery to reopen at Marben. It's been almost 2 years now.

But I have not fished Juliette. Is it true that spotted bass have pretty much taken over? I'm not a fan of clear water, spotted bass lakes. Unfortunately, I'm fishing one of those next on my schedule.

Juliette is my favorite and by far the lake I fish the most. It does have plenty of Spotted bass, but if you want to target LM just fish the grass. The lake has plenty of LM and better quality than Tobesofkee. If you want the Spots fish open water and offshore. Just look at tournament weigh ins, 1st place at Tobe won't usually get you paid at Juliette.

I've also made my last trips to Flatcreek and Big Lazer.
