Ashamed to say...
I never caught anything on any kind of frog or toad. Can't catch anything on a black buzz bait or a ned rig. I have caught a few on a full size Brush Hog.

BPS and Gander Mountain
Went by the local Cabelas today to try to get a few minor things they were out of which is normal. Talked to a guy in the fishing dept. about the inventory and the prices. He said BPS could run a monopoly since they owned Cabelas and Gander mountain now. He said BPS bought Gander Mountain from Camping World. This was news to me as I had not heard this. Anybody else heard about this? By the way I did get one pack of Gammy hooks while I was there.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I use M/H rod and 12# floro for jigs and soft plastics.

FLOAT PLAN
I always let my wife know where I will be fishing. If I decide to go to a different spot I will call her and tell her. If I will be later than normal getting back home I will call and let her know where I am and about the time I will be home. I guess we are living in the dark ages but we don't do any texting.

Summertime
I do all my fishing during the day. Usually from around 9 or 10 A.M. to about 3 to 5 P.M. depending on how much cloud cover and shade is available. I will use crankbaits, spinnerbaits, swimbaits, jigs, and a lot of soft plastics. I don't do any night fishing since I fish alone most of the time. There are to many things that can go wrong at night to take the chance. I will have a sandwich, nabs, ice tea, Gatorade, and water with me.

Post a photo a day!
We are in the same shape. We have reached the status of fishing guide. The last time I went the wife went with me. First time she has been fishing in about three years. She caught one about 18" long and around 2.5 pounds. I caught absolutely nothing.

You have been fishing for brown bass so long I wondered if you would remember how to catch the green ones.

Spinnerbait tips
I have had more luck cranking a spinnerbait slow. I never had any luck cranking one fast or trying to keep it up where you could see the flash of the blades. I will run them a little faster if the water is fairly clear.

Strange But True Fish Tales
Several years ago I was fishing a lake I really like. I had just caught a fish when I heard a splash next to the bank. I didn't think it was a fish so I didn't throw over there. Then I heard it again. I sat there and waited a minute and a water snake came out on the bank with with a small catfish in its mouth. I had never seen that before.

Whats your most productive lure so far in 2019?
Welcome to the forum. I haven't been fishing enough this year to have a most productive lure.

CCW Class
I'm surprised we haven't had to take a refresher course once in a while when we renew our permits. Guess they won't worry about it since they passed a law here allowing anyone of legal age and clean record to carry concealed now without any training or license.

PUBLIC SERVICE REMINDER
Before many of you were born back in the 1960s they did pass a law requiring motorcycle riders to wear helmets. They threw such a fit about it they finally repealed it. How come nobody had mass protest about having to wear seat belts? With helmets or seat belts it is still about individual choice. I wear a PFD even though the waters I normally fish are not heavily patrolled.

How to NOT hookset fish in practice
My boat and most of my equipment is so old cost doesn't mean much anymore.

Straight shank?
I have not used any straight shank hooks. I use Gamakatsu offset round bend hooks a lot. I like the 3/0 for Baby Brush hogs and the 2/0 for Ultra Vibe Speed Craws. Either size should be okay for curly tail worms in the 6" to 8" range. I have tried these in 4/0 for Senkos but had poor hook up ratio and went back to 4/0 EWG hooks for them.

Does Hook Color Matter
Several years ago a fellow I fished with tried the red line. He couldn't catch a fish until he got rid of it and put on some clear line.

How to NOT hookset fish in practice
If he ever fished with me he would end up losing his money.
