Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

They were all over the poor mans ned rig this evening. Caught a little bit of everything from about 645-930, including a 20.5 inch smallmouth. Water temp just under 66 for all your northerners fishing 80 degree lily pads with frogs

We are the southern boundary of a lot of northern fish species habitat range.

Got out early this morning with a good friend. We ended up with 19 total. John caught his personal best twice !! We caught most of our fish on baby brush hogs, and a few on super flukes.
The lake we live on has an island with  trees and plenty of laydowns. The trees produce some good shade after 9:30 or so. We caught most of the fish around the island today, since it was already scorching hot by 9:30 . Also saw a pair of barred owls ( in the pic one is far left, the other is far right ) that watched intently after I hooted at em.?01137765-1C36-45F7-8D1C-5C6BE9487F35.jpeg3D99BEE2-245C-46B4-A1AD-63B1FE3CB5B4.jpeg07715AE3-2E08-4316-BFFF-49DBADFE1F8D.jpeg02A19E60-825F-4DAF-BF5D-677C45DD46DC.jpeg

This guy shook and fell off the hook while I was lifting him out of the water.  Flopped around a couple of times and then did a dive right into my bag.  Sometimes you just can't make this stuff up.

Had a serious case of indecision Thursday on where to go. Torn between 3 lakes I decided to make the long drive to a lake I hadn't been to this year and I was afraid would be full of holiday goers. Should have listened to myself. First fireworks were popping at 8am and the first wake boats, skiers, and jetskis were on the water shortly after. The lake is about 180 acres and I was in my johnboat, so that was fun. There was also "zombie drum" everywhere. Never seen it before but they were hanging just below the surface in schools of dozens of fish of all sizes and they wouldn't move even if my bait ran into them. I could almost run the trolling motor into them before they'd kind of dart and spiral away, really looked like a mass fish die off about to happen but it was 100% drum. I saw some healthy looking ones cruising too, but these ones didn't look good at all.

The bass were tough to come by also. I think I caught 3 bass over 2 pounds all day. One was nearly 4 pounds on a homemade kudzu/orange jig, and another was 4.5 on the same jig. Also had a heartbreaker 10lb channel cat that ate my jig as it was falling off the front of a deep dock just like the bass were doing.

Launched our boat at our lake. 6poundbass is across the road pontooning on another lake, so I snuck out and fished for a bit. Pitching to a ten foot stretch of brush produced these two and three warmouth.

With our bass season finally open, I can now add to this thread.
Took the kid out last night for a few hours before dark. Caught one largemouth up shallow on a frog, I threw in to a tree four times and he blew up immediately every time before I finally hooked him ( really thought I’d get more but I guess they had other plans), then we headed out to the main lake and caught some smallmouths on a popper and a drop shot.

The pond is really heating up. Not the action, the water temperature. Got out at the crack of dawn but not a lot of bites. Did catch this one on a weightless TR Zoom trick worm early. It was a really light bite and I thought it spit it out, but then the line starting running. I set the hook and when I got the grippers on it, I saw the hook was down deep. As close to swallowing it as you can get. Took me several minutes to get the hook out cleanly and a few more to ensure it swam off. But off it went, so it appears that’s one bass to live and catch another day.

Switched to a weightless TR Senko, than a wacky. Not even a nibble on a wacky. Went back to the TR. I flipped a cast that sailed over some submerged branches. I was on the phone with a buddy back in MD so I left it there while we caught up. After 15 minutes I told him I needed to reel the line in and avoid a snag. As soon as I turned the crank, I felt a hit. I caught this dink without trying lol!

Enjoying this wild weather with the family on the dock. In between swimming with my kiddo and crush a couple of beers. I got one the wacky ned rig, one last fish tonight before I go back to work ?? we get on em.

Liked the wx forecast for this morn. So i got out 6:45 to 9:45 before heading to work. Got 1 on a plopper and 4 on a buzzbait with a 4-14 and a 4-1 about 5 min. Apart. Then closed out the trip with a 3-4 on a frog.

Topwater bite has been great this 4th of July weekend. The Rebel Pop-R with VMC hybrid hooks was putting in overtime.

When I noticed Sunfish taking swipes at it I switched to a Storm Hopper Popper and caught them and a Smallmouth.

After yesterdays 3 hour pre-work tour left me wanting more i went right back there after work today hoping the bidding frog bite I left was still on. While i only boated 2 in 3.5 hours they were well worth it as they weighed 3-6 and 6-2 which technically is my biggest frog fish although it was caught on the old moss mouse. She was feisry as all heck made getting a good pic tough.

My first fish of the day was a one-eyed pirate bass!  It just so happens that I was fishing a cooling lake for a nuke plant today....coincidence?  LOL
