certainly trash fish is in the eye of the beholder, use of the term may simply be colloquial, and seems to be the major subject of this thread.

I've had my day made by a 25" ladyfish (bigger than this one) because of the rocket-sled ride, and the same day brought home slot reds.

I'll add to this I've targeted carp in a cottonwood seed fall - you see them circling under the cottonwood trees.  Went home and tied up cottonwood seed flies - tufts of waste white marabou on a size 18 hook tied with brown thread.  Fished 4 inches below a strike indicator, major sport on a 4-wt.  Also picked up a couple of nice ones high-sticking my cats whisker out of a chute, preparing to swing the tailout for endemic bass.

Cat's whiskers???? Used to tie white sucker spawn using the belly hair of a white long haired cat and caught many steelhead.  Never thought of using their shed whiskers.

@WVU-SCPA David Train invented the pattern for Scot Lochs, and made the wing stand, so he claimed, using whiskers he plucked from his shy cat.  I make Krystal Flash suffice for the same.

Here's where I posted the pattern on FFR

I published an article on the fly, and got permission from everyone who had ever published it before (back when you did that sort of thing), including David Train, Mike Dawes, and the late Ian Colin James (Fumbling With a Fly Rod).

Ian and I became great correspondence and humor buddies over a decade.

He called me the Guy Who Killed the Cats Whisker, by letting it out of the bag.

On the dead drift, it's a dragonfly nymph, on the swing it's a cyprinid minnow, bottom bounced on a Teeny line, it's a killifish (mud minnow).  It catches Everything.

I had some fast action with carp and cats. One of the white catfish is state pin worthy at over 19".

I remember catching Dogfish (sand shark)

and goosefish

Goosefish

with my brother-in-law about 10 years ago. They were in very shallow - less than 10' of water. It was the last time I ever caught them.

Barracuda must have been fun! Looks like you had a great day.

Baby Shark is one of my great grandsons favorites!!! ? WARNING: If you watch the video, it WILL BE stuck in your head for hours, if not days!!!

Bass fishing was slow. Only seven bass, but I did get to take the new chatterbait rod for a spin, and I'm happy with it. Biggest bass was about 3#. Highlight of the trip was this toothy critter.

No. Caught it pitching a trigged Sweet Craw into a brush pile.

Did you go to Stellwagen?

Went bass fishing last weekend and ended up catching a couple pike.  The best part of this catch was my lure broke off on the hookset, so I immediately tied on a new jig and found my other jig hooked to its mouth!  Took me a while taking 2 lures off this toothy fish so I didn't get a chance to weigh it.

I wish. I already spent good money on tuna gear right after this trip.

Haha! That’s in the back of the creek I grew up fishing. I don’t think I’ve ever caught a big bass in there, it’s stumps for miles. I’ve tried really hard for 30 or so years. The rest of the area is deep clear water with no timber, fish like that much better for whatever reason .

as soon as you get away from those stumps, it’s constant jet ski traffic and boat docks. Apparently the fish prefer jet skis to beautiful standing timber
