I’ve been trying one spot that has produced well in the past, I don’t think they are there quite yet, but it can’t be long

Landlocked stripers try to do a spawning migration, so upstream to head waters in and around channels or depressions with large live baits in high 40s to mid 50s degree water is the ticket this time of year.

That’s where I’ve been, at a low head dam where they can’t go any further. Water temp been about 54 there

Yeah the best guys on scope in the world can't really tell the difference b/t black  and white Bass on the screen.   

 

Ben Milliken had to wade through a ton of them while Eufaula, if he can't tell the difference, I doubt anybody can.

Our problem is there are no places without 1 million white bass haha. The others have to be mixed in, or otherwise extinct haha

Ben's recent videos are really interesting, he says in Texas the Whites will run off the Black Bass, whereas on Eufaula they were mixed in together.   

 

Wouldn't bother me fun fishing, but imagine catching White after White in a big money Bass tourney, I'd hate the things ?

Everyone hates them here and say they run off the smallmouth in spring 

I’ve literally never even caught a white bass. Must be a lot of them by you @TnRiver46. The last 2 pages of this thread are basically nothing but white bass.

Skipjack herring , they also come up river by the millions in springtime like white bass . Excellent striper and catfish bait 

 

I’ve basically survived off white bass for a long time, they are immune to harvest. You can keep 15 a day, some people got caught with 420 of them in Nashville. They caught them all bank fishing with artificial lures in a single day haha

Yeah I've caught a few myself, and besides Sailfish and Bass I'd say they are the most exciting fish I've caught.  

 

Those Skipjacks look darn close to Tarpons though, and according to TNRiver46 IIrc they even jump haha.

They look they same, size a tad different. World record skipjack is like 4.5 lbs haha

White bass limit used to be 30, now reduced to 15. I don't know why there is any limit, 

you can't kill enough.

We're still at 30 here - they make a decent meal

 

Something new this year here - we're allowed to harvest Gar now...why? Who knows.
