That was my point, I wouldn’t use a good one for fish batter cuz I’m poor haha

Maybe @12poundbass would let you borrow some of his Miller Lite.  That stuff aint much better.  Sort of a "moderator welcoming gift" if you will.

With the regular season closed here, I've been hitting up the driftless region for some fly fishing.  Still learning, but I've managed to get at least one the last few trips.

Luckily flies cost a lot less than lures, as I'd be bankrupt with the amount I've been leaving in the trees.

Spent two days this week checking out the status of the crappie spawn in a local reservoir. Ended up with about 140 fish over the two afternoons. Fish are just hitting the spawning grounds here, but this burst of cooler, wet weather has most holding just outside the spawning areas in 4’-8’ of water. Next good warm spell should start the fireworks ?

Same here.  Shallow, warmer back water areas have them right now.  I went with my parents the last two afternoons on a small lake for 3 hours each day and between the three of us we caught 150+ of them.  Most of them are about palm size, very few big ones.  A few sunfish and perch mixed in.  Constant action.

That's always a blast. I kinda wanna sneak out and try it today but my lady had her gallbladder out yesterday and is hurting. Better stay home and tend to her. Maybe tomorrow if she's doing better.

Im jealous. I haven’t been on a good crappie bite in a long time. My favorite fish to eat. I catch them every now and then while bass fishing, but when I target them all I end up with is a stringer full of perch and pumpkinseeds.

I'm jealous that you can bass fish.  I can't legally do that yet.  I would rather bass fish than panfish.  Right now crappies are one of the only legal targets until May 13.

I caught a Michigan Master Angler crappie today! He was really close to 15 inches, and the master angler requirement is 14 inches. I also caught a small bass that wanted the Vision 110.

Born to fish, forced to Wipe(r)

Finally found something other than gar feeding on the threadfin spawn. Things seem to be slowing down a bit in the spawn areas I'd found, but I assume it won't fully be done until after 5/5 full moon. Work for the next five days so no fishing

My first outing of the season was pretty good. Caught about 25 crappies with a few quality sized slabs mixed in. I have a crappie contest on Saturday so at least I have a plan.

I've never even heard of or seen that type of fish, beautiful fish.   Doesn't even look like anything I've seen.

They are a "western" fish (a large predatory minnow).  Another name for them is Pike Minnow.  There are several species (three or four, I think).  We have a Sacramento Pike Minnow where I live, but there is also a Colorado Pike Minnow, and a Northern Pike Minnow (there might be another).
