I always carry out on the boat. Depending on what im wearing ill either carry on my person or stow it in one of the boats compartments. When im fishing at my family's private lake I keep it on me incase I see a beaver while out on the water. We have a big problem with them damming up the creeks that flow into the lake.

I'm always amused by those who so say you're more likely to be struck by lightning than need a gun:

According to the NOAA, over the last 20 years, the United States averaged 51 annual lightning strike fatalities, placing it in the second position, just behind floods for deadly weather. In the US, between 9% and 10% of those struck die, with an annual average of 25 deaths in the 2010s decade (16 in 2017).

Since the fatality rate is 9-10% that means roughly 500 people a year have been struck in the last 20 years.

In 2019 alone there were 16,425 murders.  That's not counting those shot and wounded but surviving (obviously).

Most of us on this forum do not have a lifestyle or live in areas that place us in a high risk group but as a retired cop I know that criminals and the crazy DO NOT confine themselves to their core areas.  Bad things happen to good people every day.  I  my career I had a few instances of stopping evil in the act, most of the time unfortunately I was batting cleanup.

Yes, even retired I am armed anywhere it's lawful.

Ya those bass boats are under constant attack on the water.

It’s usually at the ramp, not on the water. I know of one fisherman murdered on the way from the ramp to his truck not long ago. Google doesn’t know as much as you think

i don’t carry a gun, but you wouldn’t believe who all hangs out at boat ramps. My game warden buddies pull lots of needle dope off of idiots parked at the ramps constantly. They don’t even want to deal with it, but it’s non stop and always at remote ramps in their jurisdiction

i also know a guy that launched his boat this summer and someone jumped in it and drove off while he was parking

At the lake I had two guys walk up to me and one said “ hey , can you settle an argument for us ? “  then he pulled a knife out of his pocket and said “ does this look like a good knife to stab a truck driver?” His buddy grabbed his arm and told him come on man let’s go. I still have no idea what In the wide world of sports was going through that crackhead’s mind. I’ve never driven a truck in my life.

As someone who has needed a firearm for self defense, I don't leave my house unarmed.

Carry a 45acp handgun and won't ever wish I had something too late. This state has a concealed carry law for all that are not felons. Amazing how much more polite people have become since that law went into effect. Our boat ramps are in the woods and lot of sketchy people hang around them at all hours. Carry and learn how to use your firearm.......well.

Cop pulled over a elderly lady, as the cop walk up to the driver door he noticed a 9 mm laying in the front seat, a 7-08 rifle in back seat then he noticed a 4-10 saw off in between the seats.  The cop looked down at the old lady and ask her “what are you scared of” and she snapped back “nothing”

I have never carried and don’t have a permit to do so. Honestly I’m a terrible shot with a pistol. I keep the armor of God and a sharp blade on my person at all times. And I have dozens of fishing buddies that carry as soon as their feet touch the floor every morning

I also carry a knife and there's a can of spray in my car that's ten times more potent than pepper spray.

I carry fishing, and everywhere else.   I'm an Eagle Scout.  I believe in being prepared.  I carry a couple knives and a flashlight all the time too.

That's a lot of metal, Woody. That load would tire me out even faster than I already do.

Bawhahaha, so true!

I informed a police officer that had just pulled me over after leaving an outdoor range that I had guns in the truck.......he asked what kind, next thing I know I'm talking about guns on the side of the road.  He let me go with a warning 😁

I’ve been pulled over while traveling to new spots coyote hunting and always end up talking guns with the cop. Usually get pulled over or greeted at the truck when I get back from the field while coyote hunting. Hearing shots in the middle of the night or seeing a light out in a field draws attention. They are usually in awe over my thermal set ups and want to look through them. Oddly though being in NY they never check or care about my AR if it’s “compliant” my hunting ones are because of the chances of being stopped don’t wanna risk it. The only thing I’ve been asked about the legality of my gun is the caliber. The county I was in you must use a rifle smaller than .22 during deer season so need a .17 or .20cal I’ve got both in AR platforms just for that reason while coyote hunting .17-223 and a 20practical.

I have an NRA, Gadsden Flag, and Illinois State Rifle Assoc stickers on the rear window of the truck. Got pulled over for speeding and rightfully so. My driving record is clean. Let me go with a warning because "I had the right stickers on my truck"
