When do they usually drop their antlers? Most if not all of ours have dropped theirs by now.

I can't say for certain, but you can see that the smaller one in the first pic has lost one side, whether that was a drop, or lost earlier from a fight or something else who knows.

We have this weird thing in Alabama where our population is made up of native and non-native populations that all rut at different times.  Just two weeks ago that same buck was chasing a single or pair of Does every time I saw it, now it's co existing like it might be over.

Unraveling Alabama’s Rut(s) (buckmasters.com)

“There are several oddball areas. If you look on the map and check the (color-coded) dots, you’ll see where the deer came from. You’ll see deer from Wisconsin or Texas and where they were placed throughout the state.

Even though it’s been 50 or 60 years ago, the rut still mirrors the basic genetics of that deer herd. So there are isolated pockets in Alabama, unlike any other place in the nation where I’ve worked, where you’ve got deer rutting in November, December, January and February. You’ve got months that, depending on where you are in the state, you can hunt the rut.

“If I’m managing property in Illinois or Ohio, you’ve got two weeks you can hunt the rut, and then you may have two weeks with a small secondary rut. In Alabama, in some places, you can hunt part of the rut four months out of the year. It’s unlike any other place in the country.”

Had a couple passengers on the boat today, I think they really enjoyed their ride along.

  • After a couple of years of being used to make the new movie "TOP GUN-2" this F-18 E  has just arrived @ our facility in Jacksonville Fl. for rework, fresh paint and being returned to the active fleet.

One of the 10 best things you can do on a bicycle, Laguna Atascosa NWR.  All the one-lane macadam roads in the 38,000 acre preserve were closed to motor vehicles more than a dozen years ago to protect the ocelot population.  Now they belong to pedals.

Even when I was an avid downhiller, I avoided built-jumps like the plague, though I had no issue getting some air-time off of moguls.

That thing scares me.

Ya - ran quite a few rolls through my Minolta XD-5 back in the day. Still have the camera - over 40 years old now but still in perfect working order.

Sold all my Nikon and Leica film cameras after I left the pro ranks and I went digital, but still have a couple of "wall hangers," a Rolleicord twin lens reflex and a Bakelite (early form of plastic) bodied Zeiss Ikon my dad liberated from a stash in Germany during WWII.

He’s not smart enough to know his name, only responds to kitty. He is smart enough to tell time. Every night between 7-7:30 he sits by my wife, looks in my direction, and meows. He’s telling me it’s time to play with the red dot.

A couple more from last weekend 4-day trip to far s. Texas.

The palapa with Stevo's solostove fire pit was a hit for entertaining the girls on the cool nights.

YzkOluY.jpg

Stevo also had a griddle top for the firepit, with a stovetop pizza oven and 700-degree stone.

No one is ever going to out-do Susie in the kitchen - her star for the trip was a lemon buttermilk pie.

If we didn't ride those bicycles, you could roll us all down the NWR macadam.
