From today....Deer can most certainly outswim me, they can motor pretty well, and pretty far.

They don’t even have webbed feet. They have chicken-style feet. That alone should tell you they are out of their element. When I used to duck hunt, we’d see a fair amount of them. When the ducks weren’t flying, and we were desperate, we’d pick off coots. They’re like overgrown wasps.

I'm getting jealous here, Brian - 6-8 weeks before the ice is gone and I can go hunt those crappie again.

One of the warmest Februarys on record here…only 6th time of no recordable snow this month. Last time was 1949. Our ice has been gone for several weeks  but we’ll probably pay for it in March - lol

Meanwhile - we're bopping between 30s for highs and teens-20s for lows...keeping the ice going on the lakes.

 

We're also just a five inches shy of getting into the top ten snowiest winters on record...with 1"-3" predicted tonight.

 

We do need the moisture though - most of the Metro is  still in a Stage-2 drought though my particular area has upgraded to a Stage-1 from the last snowfall we got.

It’s been quite warm here too this winter, but as @MN Fisher stated, moisture has been abundant. On average we get 21 nights below zero during winter (Dec - Feb) here, and we’ve only had 10.

My hunting dog (Vizsla) caught this the other day. It’s playing dead in the photo. Don’t worry, he lived. Took him out front and he walked on, hissing the whole way.

couple fridays ago I had to crawl under this sunroom and unscrew those boards, which someone used about 600 deck screws to hold up. I knew there was a dead possum up in there because my nose led me to it and I could see leaf nest falling out of the cracks. I got super frustrated with the exponential amount of screws and just started grabbing the boards and pulling on them and the possum fell out. Lucky me. I gave it shallow grave in their backyard, RIP mister stanky

This showed up in my Facebook “memories” today - Wheeler and I whacking some cold water bass 15 years ago (Mar 2008). He would have been 18 or 19 at the time, and had only fished Junior Bassmaster and local weeknight stuff.
