When I only used mono, years ago, I usually respooled with fresh line every spring.  With braid, I seldom respool until the level gets low on the spool. Not sure what is recommended with today's mono and fluoro.

Most of my setups have BG and YZH. I respool a few times per month during the season. It's cheap enough to do so and makes me feel better.

With Mono, probably once a year...unless I see excessive line-memory...then as needed.

 

With braid...well, I have two bait-casters that have the same braid from the mid 1990's(!)

 

Gets a little faded...but the bass don't seem to care. Boated 20+ largemouth on spinner bait Sunday.

In the spring and then sometime throughout the year for fluorocarbon.  But it also depends on the memory of the line.  I have a spinning reel spooled with 7 lb Gamma Touch that I have used heavily since March and it is still fine.  Monofilament is so cheap that I will do it more often.  I only replace braid when it starts getting low on the spool due to backlash/wind knot messes.  When I fished more tournaments I did it more often but that was more for my own piece of mind.  

Mono once or twice a year.

Fluorocarbon only use as leader. whenever my leader gets short. 
Braid every other year 

 

When my spool gets low or after I throw a fit and stretch/gouge my line. 

If it gets low on the reel, I'll re-spool then - otherwise

 

Mono, FC - once a year

YZH - once every couple of years

Braid - umm...my Heavy rig still has the same 50#PP I spooled up when I first got it 4 years ago...still not low enough to need a re-spool.

I respool in the spring and whenever the spool gets low. I may have to respool if I do something stupid and get a backlash so bad I have to cut it out.

Twice a year. Mono and fluoro gets refreshed upon ice out and is fished hard for about 3 months. Repeat on Labor day for the fall bite up until ice in. Heat and extreme boating pressure keeps me off the water most of the summer until September. For my spinning reel I like to try a new brand each year but this ygk sinking braid may see a second year of use, good stuff.

I do the same, Except I dont use mono at all.

Most common reason I re-spool is primarily when the spool is low on line such that casting distance and line recovery rate are no longer ideal.

Sort  of as needed, but, with mono usually once a year, unless that reel see heavy use. Only have 1 reel with fluro, and that could last for a few years, as I don't use it as often as my other rigs.

Braid, only when the spool gets low. Which isn't very often.

I never totally respool. I take it back to a knot that is plenty far back enough. A few rods I use the hardest I respool after 2 or 3 times out. Pretty anal about my line. Crankbait fishing is not easy on your line. Buy it in a large spool for the cost savings and store it in a cool space out of sunlight. 

I respool as needed depending on line type and which setups.   Usually mono is three times a year or more but I have gotten away from using it as primary line.  FC maybe once a year for Invizx and up to four years with Tatsu.  With braid, I change it about once every two to three years, again, depending on the usage. 

 

Now depending on the application......

 

Jigs> FC can last a long time if I am using heavier line and I am just pitching/flipping

 

Texas Rigged plastic > FC won't last as long but if use Tatsu, it will last at least two years 

 

Crankbaits > regular mono will get beat up here.  I have been using Sunline Defier and it has lasted two seasons so far.  My previous choices were changed frequently.

 

Topwater> Braid.  Changed once a year.  It gets torn up in all cabbage I fish.

 

Finnese > Braid to Leader.  Last as long as I can keep it on there but usually two to three years

As needed. Sometimes it's after one trip, sometimes it's 3 years or more.

I have a length of 50lb Power Pro that is just finishing it’s 5th season of use.  I keep bouncing it to shallower and shallower spools as it gets shorter, but it’s never let me down. 

I respool as needed. Sometimes I can get away with once a year. Sometimes I have to put on new line every 3 months or so.

Sometimes I'll respool 2-3 times a month depending on where I'm fishing & the cover. If I happen to backlash bad that line is coming off as soon as I get home, too many kinks in the line.

 

With monofilament or fluorocarbon the longer it stays on your reel the more memory it develops, I change it out for that reason alone.

 

With some rods ,once a year but on others I might respool after one trip . My worm rod gets respooled often .

I fish three or four days per week, spring,summer,fall...

 I Only respool when low and affects casting.

I'm a monofilament fisherman. I respool my t rig rods three or more times over the season. Big Game is inexpensive, and it's a confidence booster having good fresh mono on my rods.

This is what I do too. Just re-spoiled my symetre and my gray 201 curado last night this way.

I know I’m not using all 145 yards of 8# on my Symetre. 

I look at it from this perspective 

 

Everyone knows to check their line from the knot up 2-3'. I want to know what condition it's in 20' up the line, 30' up the line.

 

I fish a lot or heavy cover that routinely produces 25-30# stringers.

Everyone feel good about their line when it’s fresh and new.

At what point do you start thinking it should changed?

Anytime your have any concern it may be weakening, line wear out.

When I fished a lot changing after after it’s used and stressed  it got changed, sometimes the same day on the water if needed.

It’s the only thing between you and the fish that matters, line failure is a lost fish or lure.

Targeting big bass that equal or outweighs the line strength the line must be in good condition the newer the better.
