Once In A Lifetime

I lost my best friend last Saturday. Some might remember the story where five years ago on June 8th he surprised me by flying from Ohio to show up at my first bass trip the morning after I retired.

Well, now my wife and I are in Ohio and Rick’s funeral is tomorrow.  He has been my best friend for 37 years and closer than a brother. He went to the hospital for mild chest pain and was sent to surgery to relieve an arterial blockage but it was too late.  It’s been really hard. He called on me when his son passed away to be there for him. Now I’m here for his wife and kids and their kids. I’m uncle Doug.

To have someone like Rick just once in my lifetime is so special. I’ll ask you to send prayers and thoughts to the Shaw family.   Just caring means so much. We’ll be passing the Kleenex tomorrow.

Sad to hear, will pray for all those that love him.

My best friend and fishing partner for over 40 years is really spiraling down hill as we speak.

Praying for all of you to be comforted.

Cherish the memories . You are fortunate to have had him in your life . What would he want you to do now ?

So sorry to hear this...losing people is an awful feeling. When I was in my early 20s I went to Omaha for the weekend with my then girlfriend...on the way home a mutual friend of ours called and told her that my friend Alonso was murdered that morning. Apparently his cousin owed some bad guys money, Alonso opened the door said he's not here and they shot him in the face. That one was a jagged pill to swallow. I'm praying for you and his family.

Praying for you.

My best friend passed from covid on my birthday last year. Still kind of in shock, for lack of a better way to explain it…

Like yours, mine was a once in a lifetime kind of friend. Very  Very thankful to have known him for as long as I did…
