Changing our Valentines Day protocal.

Featured Replies

Used to be i would buy wife some jewelry and box of chocolates, we never went out for dinner for v-day just because of the crowded restaurants. I stopped doing the jewelry part in 2021 and just continued to do the box of chocolates.

Today v-day i didnt buy any chocolates but decided to go to dinner instead with the plan not to eat all day which i havnt since 5:00am breakfast and be at the restaurant at 4:30 pm and get seated and go from there.

To me it’s a “Hallmark Holiday” and if I have to reassure my wife I still care for her then I’m doing something wrong. That being said, we will be going out to a fancy farm to table restaurant tonight.  It’s a good excuse to drop a few bills on a meal.  Sometimes we need to be pushed into splurging.

We did a our Valetines day celebration yesterday. Chocolate, cards exchanged and a fine dinner.  Worked out well.

We don't do anything big for valentines day.  We go out to dinner enough that there's no reason to make a special thing of it unless it falls on a weekend anyway or if someone is doing a special menu we like the look of.  We don't do gifts either, just a fun/funny card  Definitely the easiest holiday here.

now a days the store bought cards are pricey along with the chocolates, the problem with buying chocolates was i couldnt keep my fingers clear and wound up eating more than i should.

I am conscious about eating to much sugar and gettin fat, my glucose is down to 74 as of 14 days ago when i had a physical.

We are going to the local pizza/ice cream spot. Not too expensive 😂

and of course I bought some flowers and a card, gotta cover my tail

I am to cheap to buy flowers, i should buy plastic roses and just reuse them every year.

I recall when in my bar drinking years the nite clubs i was at had woman walking around selling roses and would approach us guys when we were sittin with our dates really puttin us on the spot to buy. Never once did i buy a rose. Probably why i went home alone most nights.

My beautiful wife is a card exchange kinda gal and she loves old cars and hot rods. Got her a card along with a dozen roses. Also got her a Moon Eyes and an Honest Charley's T-shirt.

For you young guys, Moon makes racing and hot rod parts. Way back before the Internet, Honest Charley's was a mail order, racing parts place, based in Chattanooga, TN. Her daddy used to race dragsters and purchased from them.

I just got home from the lake a couple hours ago, pushed the boat in the garage,  plugged in the charger, and went and bought a GIANT balloon for my bride.

We gave each other cards, and were planning on making homemade pasta together but we ordered a pizza and watched The Bachelor instead.

I got an x-ray of the chest...........to show Mrs B my heart was in the right place.

Before she retired I'd send her flowers to work every Valentines.  Since she's retired she prefers a card and a couple lottery tickets.

All of our "nice" restaurants around here are packed on V-day so the wife and I went to a bourbon bar that has a food truck.  We tried three new bourbons and had some fantastic street tacos and the place was less than half full.  We agreed it was Valentine's Day perfection.

Wow, I hope that's not some Freudian-thing slipping out of your subconscious! 😁

I think you're long-arming that balloon...

I bought mine some new lures. Even wrapped it up nice and put it in a nice red bag with a bow. She loved it but complained one of the lures was too expensive. I'm happy that she knows that.

I didn't get anything.

I bought myself a flower patterned shirt and said see, here I got you flowers.  Ended up watching pornhub...

For us, Ash Wednesday. I got mine in the morning, she got her's in the evening.  Pancakes, scrambled eggs and bacon for dinner.  Standard Fat Tuesday fare.

She did get a nice card and a flower called a bromeliad.

When I was a kid in the 60's we would hang out at tech inspections for the Nationals (I'm from the west side of Indy). It was held publicly in a local shopping center lot. We would raid the hospitality tents looking for free food and stickers. STP was the gold standard but Honest Charley's were a lot easier to swipe. Got chased out a few times but got to meet some big names of that era.

Kenji Okazaki and Big Jim Dunn. I remember watching the Mooneyes funny car as a kid.
